UMR has excellent opportunities to improve your standing in the class room. LEAD, Learning Enhancement Across Disciplines, is a UMR program that coordinates and operates the Learning Centers for various courses, for example the Physics 23 and 24 PLCs. LEAD offers two types of student assistance. The first is the aforementioned Learning Centers where group and board work are emphasized and the second is drop-in peer tutoring offering a more one to one environment. LEAD mission is to help the students understand the material, not to do it for them. LEAD offers assistance in a wide variety of subjects which can be viewed by clicking on the following link.
If a student is taking one of the offered subjects, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that that student attend the sessions. All types of students attend the Learning Centers and tutoring sessions, so do not feel that they are unnecessary if you have a “high grade”. Everyone can get something useful out of the sessions.
Also, LEAD is an excellent opportunity for student employment. The Peer Learning Assistants (PLAs, the student assistants) receive pre-professional development as well as further practice in their particular subject areas. LEAD is always looking for qualified PLAs.

The physics 23 PLC didn't help me at all, I went 2 times, both times I ended up spending more time trying to explain what we needed to do to the other members of my group than I did actually working on the assignment. The statics learning center, however, has been helpful. If you need help in statics, go to the SLC, it helps.
