I've read Maddox's flame against the late Christopher Reeves.
Whether I agree with that or not is not important.

http://www.maddox.xmission.com/c.cgi?u=creeve

What is bothering me is how the label "hero" is being thrown around MSNBC and probably every other news station that is covering this story. Reeves was no hero.

A person noted for special achievement in a particular field: the heroes of medicine. I'm assuming that that this definition is the basis for this ridiculous label. Let's get this straight...being a famous actor with famous and powerful friends who is succesful at furthering HIS cause isn't heroic. Scientists and doctors who slave away at research are the heroes.

Christopher Reeves was a lobbyist; it's as simple as that. To claim that he is any more heroic than any other person who has had to deal with a paralyzing injury solely on the grounds that with his fame came an ability to influence government to fund more research is ludicrous.

That's your problem right there. You're 1 of 8 people in the world watching that news channel. Unless you can rally the other seven around the cause, don't expect any changes soon.

Christopher reeves was a hero in the respect that he survived after his injury longer and better than most people would have in that situation. No, he didn't cure cancer or invent sliced bread, but nonetheless he was a strong man. And, in my mind, people who survive injuries as he did or diseases are heroes in their own respect.

BS the reason he survived longer and better than most is because he had huge amounts of money to get the best treatment available. I was watching some damn news show where his widow said they would like to think HIS TEAM of nurses and doctors for taking such excellent care of him. It has less to do with quality of charachter, and more to do with quantity of cash.

Even if it wasn't cash, the mere stubborn will to live does not a hero make. Otherwise Rasputin would be practically worshipped.

This is one of the main reasons i HATE watching cable news networks, minus C-Span. All the rest are just a bunch of worthless fucks that are whores to the system. Do yourselves a favor and stop watching. Now we'll all hear about this HERO shit for like a week and then its on to how some random bitch in california has gone missing. WTF.

FARK is where its at. Later.

Excellent point AC (did I just say that? ). I don't think Reeves was a hero in any way. Am I glad he's dead? No. Did he do alot of good work in getting money to the researchers (who I don't think are heros, but thats not the point) to help cure paralysis? Yes. Does this make him a hero? Nope. Sorry.

That's sad but true.

Bullshit Reeves was a strong man. Did he ever wear the superman outfit or star in any superman movies after his injury? NO! Why? Cause he's a damn pantyliner. Strong men are the ones who can keep with their dream after their injury. Look at Lance Armstrong or that guy from Def Leppard. They didn't kill their dream just because they could get past a bumb in the road.
"But Reeves was paralyzed"
Whoopty shit. He could still be in a movie. All they had to do was use cgi or clever editing to make it look like he wasn't in a wheelchair. If a jackass like Tarantino can make Uma Thurman look like she knows how to swing a sword, then I'm sure just about any Hollywood hack can make Reeves kick some ass on the big screen.
Every picture I've seen of Reeves looks like he's blubbering all over the place. If I was in his place, I'd have got some strippers and made a movie where superman saves the day from his couch because he's too damn lazy to get up.
