It wasn't misclassified. The group of middle-aged pasty teenagers without a life decided their previous arbitrary classification wasn't as good as another arbitrary classification that they could think of if they all got together and thought up more arbitrary classifications.
That's like people who say that the people who wrote the Bible are stupid because they called a bat a kind of bird and they called a whale a kind of fish. The somewhat-less-arbitrary classification system didn't exist back then, and it made sense to classify things based on where they were and what they did (sort of like Pluto).

While I can't argue with the fact that any sort of classification, by their nature, must be arbitrary, I can argue that whatever "arbitrary" classification we do use must contain REASON. It became excessively obvious that when compared to the 8 planets, Pluto was in a lot of ways, very different. As more bodies were discovered that were "much like" Pluto but were not being called planets, it became fairly obvious that a change needed to be implemented. I think they made the wise choice and went with the path of least resistance by simply changing the "arbitrary" classification to exclude bodies such as Pluto to make it more obvious what is required to be a planet.
Now, I do disagree with the retarded name of "dwarf planet" because that's just seems too much like a misnomer and confusing.

I know all that. I was just being a smartass. Cause it's fun. And who doesn't like making fun of old people with more money than themselves?
