A University of Missouri-Rolla student who would not properly identify himself to Rolla Middle School authorities Wednesday afternoon forced a lockdown at the school.

The building was later determined to be secure and the uncooperative “suspicious male” was located back on the UMR campus and positively identified as the individual in question.

According to the Rolla Police Department, the incident happened about 1 p.m. Wednesday. Rolla police officeers responded to a call from the middle school, which reported the unidentified male would not identify himself to school authorities when asked to do so by the school principal.

Said Chief David Pikka, “The school was immediately placed on lockdown, in accordance with school policy, until it could be deemed safe by law enforcement authorities.

“Law enforcement authorities from the Rolla Police Department, Phelps Couonty Sheriff’s Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol and University Police responded to the school and immediately established a perimter and initiated a search of the building. The complete search of the building determined that the suspect had left prior to the arrival of law enforcement, and the building was deemed secure.

“A possible suspect was later identified as a freelance photographer working on behalf of the University of Missouri-Rolla to photograph the UMR Solar Car Team, which had performed a demonstration at the middle school. This individual was located back on the UMR campus and questioned by Rolla police officers. The questioning resulted in his positive identification as the individual in question.”

The suspect was released after questioning. The report of the incident will be turned over to Phelps County Prosecuting Attorney Ken Clayton.

Why in God's name would you not identify yourself to authorities? Just dumb.

I wonder what they would be charging him with, if anything. I too wish that being a dumbass was a crime , but did he actually break any laws?

Schools are public property, plus the article never mentioned that the administration asked him to leave the premises... just that they asked who he was and he failed to identify himself. If they did indeed ask him to leave and he refused, it's entirely possible that could be the case.

I think there is something missing here. I don't think multiple police departments respond unless there was something fishy going on. The guy is a dumbass for not just telling the principal what he was doing there and ending the whole thing right there.

Google "school shooting." There have been a shit ton in the last year or so, and it is now a really serious issue. Not only were some of these just school shootings, part of them involved molestation. My advice to everyone is, if yo are going to be around a school, make sure that you have business their, and that the principle/superintendant/faculty know why you are there.

usually a photographer is fairly obvious... ie Camera, camera bag, tripod... you'd think that the school would realize this. i can understand if they thought he was suspicious, but not identifying yourself isn't a crime. not leaving when asked to, however, is.

"Hello, my name is Disgruntled Ex-Student. I'm taking pictures of the school so I can plan out my murder spree down to the path that I'm going to take."

That's what I'd think if I was a paranoid administrator and there was an unidentified photographer roaming the school.

Or, maybe when they saw an adult walking around a middle school with a camera they thought....

What does he heve to hide from authority. If he would have just explained who and what he was doing instead of acting like a retarded ass hat, then it both parties wouldn't have had so much difficulty.

You will notice that the police didn't show up until well after he was gone. Of course, if he had been what they were afraid of, several people would have been dead before the police got there. The only people who WILL be there with the shooting starts are the victims, and they are the only ones who can stop the shootings before they progress.
