Does anybody know of an application that will split a large audio file into multiple files of a specified size? In this case I have a 20hr single mp3 file. I would like to break it down into more manageable sections and don't want to save each section manually.

If you don't need to access the audio inside the file, then you can break it into chunks using GNU 'split' (in coreutils). Or for Windows, I'm sure archiver programs (Winzip?) have options to spit out a series of equal-sized files with numbered extensions. You might also look up tools used for posting binaries to Usenet.

If you actually intend to break the file up into "chapters" or some other arbitrary division, then I'm not so sure. Personally, I don't know of a program that will create breakpoints in the file without reencoding at least a small bit of the surrounding audio (most will likely do the entire clip!)--and that means doubly-encoded lossy nastiness. Is there any way you can get a copy of the original raw audio?

Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) perhaps?
