 Post subject: IEEE 1394/Firewire Networking/filesharing issue

Source: Fidelity
Two laptops, Inspiron E1505, and an Inspiron 5100 connected with 1394 cable.
Connection established, 400 Mbit, and manual TCP/IP settings
E1505: 192.168.1.20
5100: 192.168.1.21
both with sm 255.255.255.0

The 5100 can ping the E1505, but the E1505 cannot ping the 5100. Both on same workgroup.
Cannot see other computer from either laptop.
When switched to wireless, both computers are fine for filesharing. (but wireless sucks for large file transfers)

Ideas?
