Me and my roomate are considering collegiate station next year, now would it be possible to setup a microwave network from say, TJ or top floor of the RC, to over there? would involve using someone's ethernet jack in their room, but that could be worked out. Opinions?

Why would you want to go through that trouble of buying/building a microwave set up? Also, I don't think there will be a clear path from RC to Collegiate. The old UMR PD office is in the way.

isee, and your right about microwave being a hassle.

then would it be Possible to setup a directional wifi antenna to TJ and coerce someone to let me stick a wireless N router on 11 south. Because its what, maybe a mile between the two? if i can get LOS from the roof or an upper window.

anything is possible if you can get line of sight. use one of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 31&Tpk=wzr and put DD-WRT on it. I have one and it throughputs almost 20MB/s over wireless with dual band N mode enabled (no where near 300Mb/s but still faster than campus LAN) and it covers like 4 city blocks, vs the netgear 802.11g it replaced barely covering one.

If you want to build a biquad antenna on the recieving end, I have a few old dish network satellite dishes.

Damn, thats a nice router. Now if I toss a directional antenna on the router's end also, would I need as much power as that one puts out?

related to this, went up to 11 south, and my one minute inspection resulted in, those trees are pretty darn tall. I'll take a closer look this weekend but tis not looking superb at this point. Still have a couple things left to check.

Extending the campus network is a violation of policy. Expect that if this is discovered it to be confiscated as well as reported to as student misconduct.
