alright i have been trying to fix this computer for so long and i cant seem to be able to do it.
The problem is is that the computer keeps restarting. I have gotten lots of BSODs. The most common is the IRQL_LESS_OR_NOT_EQUAL and PFN_LIST_CORRUPT and all i could find on it is that i have a faulty driver. Well i have all the updated drivers from the manufactures. I have tried several installs of windows xp but to no avail. The latest stop screen was this:
Stop: 0X0000008E
Microsoft has a hotfix for it but you have to go through customer support and i cant find it on the internet, hopefully someone on seek has it and it will fix the problems.
By the way i have ran a ram tester and all the memory checks out fine.
Here is the specs on the computer
SOYO K7VME motherboard
256mb Ultra PC2700 RAM
60gb deskstar harddrive

Thats all this computer has in it, everything is onboard so i dont see why there would be any conflicts or anything like that.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

how frequent is the restarting?
If MS has a fix for this and you know that will work then you need to get a copy of xp with all the hotfixes.
What drivers are you using?

Well before i formated, it was restarting about 2-3 times every couple hours. Now that i have reformated it it has only restarted once and that is when it gave me the stop 0X0000008E error.
I am using the drivers that the motherboard came with. Whats a little strange though is that the soyo audio drivers are not windows certified. I contacted soyo about this, maybe this is the problem. Anyways if anyone has this hotfix or knows where i can find it it would be greatly appreciated.

I have had problems with soyo motherboards in the past, but that was with an AMD K6-2 processor...

I would suspect the power supply.
What is the power supply wattage rating and is it a name brand or a cheap one?

Also overheating could be a problem. I recommend opening the case, look at all the fans, especially the processor fan. Make sure they are turning. Get a can of air at wal-mart and blow all the dust out of the inside of the case(around fans, heatsinks and airflow exit and entry points). Last check the thermal paste between heatsink and processor. If dry or was a thermal pad, clean with Isopropoyl alcohol, replace thermal paste, reattach heatsink.

Also another culprit could be the hardrive. This is the IBM deskstar harddrives that everyone has had problems with. IBM has been sued over this. Hitachi has bought out IBM's harddrive business.
Go to Hitachi's web site and find the diagnotic software for harddrives. See if any errors come up.

Good Luck,

What kind of power supply is in it? Those are to blame sometimes for bluescreens and are often overlooked.

Check the capacitors for swelling, I don't know if random restarting is a symptom of faulty capacitors, but I do know that some of the K7V** motherboards have some bad capicators on them. I have a K7VZM and it boots extremely slow, and has swelling in capacitors. I should probably change them before I fry the processor.

If there are swolen capacitors, they are very easy to change out, as long as you get the same type of capacitor that was in there before. I can do it, but that is if that is even the problem.
