I was wondering if there was a way to see which IP adresses are blocked. My roommate thinks his is, but we want to make sure. Thanks a bunch.

I mean whether or not the school is blocking their IP adress, ethernet card, whatever. They can't get on the internet, even though the internet is enabled under network connection. We were trying to see if they have a virus or if something in their computer is blocking them, but we can't update their computer because the internet keeps giving us trouble. We installed AVG, but that again didn't find anything because it wasn't updated. Just wondering what is the best plan of action.

check the email of whoever the nic is registered to, if they shut you down they'll let you know.

you can always try good old ping.
use his computer to find out his IP, and then use another computer to ping that IP and see if it works?

The same thing happened to me. Somehow I got a virus and IT blocked me. Just call the Helpdesk (H-E-L-P or 4-3-5-7) and ask them whats going on. They'll probably tell you to get a disk with a cleaning tool from them.

Same thing happened to my roommate last year. IT shut him down and sent him an email -after- they shut him down. Would call and see, and if so, be ready to wait a few days

Yea, the fun part is that they send the e-mail after they block you.

Last time IT blocked me, I still had access to minermail from my machine. Then again that was for a DMCA violation and not virii related.

if its a dmca (or other internet usage problem) they'll only shut down your internet access... if its a virus/worm, they shut down network access completely.

kongfuzi: the network would get fucked up pretty bad if they waited for every infected pc owner to reply to an email before cutting their network access. thats why you have friends with computers... or at least people to say "fuck off, go to a clc if you wanna check your email"

Mee: Yea, I realize that, it's just that I find it rather funny. I know a good many people this happened to last year, but they never once thought to check their e-mail at a CLC, instead they went bitching to all their friends and the help-desk.
