Is anyone else getting horribly slow dl's from torrents. For some reason, for like the past week and a half I can't get anything over 20 kb/s and most of the time it's 10kb/s or less. I thought it was sp2 but i hadn't had any problems with it before. Besides that, I removed my limitation on tcp/ip connections which was the supposed problem with SP2 and filesharing programs. Any ideas?
I even downloaded on older build of my torrent client to see if that's what the problem was. Still nothing.

Yes, it is extremely slow right now. I've asked a couple people in other parts of the country, and they all agree that it has been slow for the last few days.
I have not had this issue. but you know the hurricanes have messed with the internet at large. I still have been getting torrents at a great speed. You ‘might’ try changing your port range. FYI: I recently went from using bit tornado to using burst.
I'm really confused....my roommate can download just fine, using same client, same port. I just don't know what magically changed to cause me these problems. I used to be able to upload/download at 500+ at times, though i never did but for like a minute...just to check. But usually i capped it at 100 up and stayed there consistently.
I'm using Azureus, and until tonight I was having the same problem you were. After I restarted my computer, all my speeds jumped back up to where they normally were. So I dunno what to tell you.

http://www.netlimiter.com/ Bit torrent speeds are very complicated issue to control. The biggest problem anyone will have is when they allow to many connections, or too much upload. If your upload is saturated your DL will suck. When you restated you likely kicked n number of people that waiting for upload from you, asking your machine over and over for data. A good warning sign of having to high an upload is a jack hammering, or bouncing UL pattern. If you have linux I would suggest you use a traffic shaper/limiter. If you are using bit tornado, do not only limit bandwidth, but limit number of connections (different than transfers). Also for any one interested in quickly monitoring downloads that is using Bit tornado in windows I recommend the program “net limiter”, linked above. This is not a magic program for bit torrent, but it can be useful to monitor and limit file transfers.
A lot of trackers do a poor job. I would recommend that everyone that can limit upload.
I think that it is as simple as Bit Torrent is getting over populated. I have been experiencing the same problems described here. Granted, I was using an ancient BT client (Shadow's Experimental). That's pretty old from what I've been told. My buddy told me to get Bit Tornado and then everything was peachy. I have 100 ports open to it. My little circle turns green. NICE!! I downloaded Star Wars Battlefront at average 35 k/s on a 384 cable line. So I would call that pretty descent, especially from the 3-5 k/s that I was seeing before my upgrade.
There are so many people using BT now and things change so fast (trackers, clients, etc.) there is no telling what is causing the problems.
One more thing...I fucking hate Service Pack 2. It has been the baine of my existence since it was installed.

Ok...so I reverted back to azureus and still no improvement. I've limited the amount of connections as mentioned and it hasn't seemed to work. My health on torrents is green but it still doesn't give me better speeds. I hope some random reboot fixes this soon.

By design this is the oposite of how bit torrent works.

Maybe try a 'new' client. Maybe you are getting shit torrents. I think the green only means that you can open ports ok.
I tried bittornado as well and it didn't help any either. So I went back to bitcomet...can't stand azureus because it horrible memory hog. Through whatever tweaks and things I've been messing with I've gotten my upload speed to go up...but not my down. I used xp-Antispy to up my tcp/ip connection limit to 200. Any other ideas?
