I think there is a problem when I actually want to go back to dialup. The popup Ads are getting out of hand. They appear when I open or close any webpage. Even my personal website or just files on my computer.

What is the best tool to combat this? I have spybot and adware (updated), but I guess they aren't linked to spyware. I don't know for sure about that.

What do you all do to fight off popup Ads?

Use Mozilla or Firefox, they have built in pop-up blocking that can be enabled.

No, he has ad programs installed on his computer. I suggest using HiJackThis. Great program, gets rid of all programs that are installed on your computer.

If you have problems you can always download a program called "Pest Control". It works great, saved me from having to reformat my computer when it was infested with spyware when Spybot and Ad-Aware failed to remove the annoying pop-ups.

I got mine off of http://www.suprnova.org or you can just try a google torrent search. Look for the Corporate version

I think I'm just gonna resort to a pop-up blocker. Anybody know of any good pop-up blockers that work well?

Google Bar is my best friend, for searching and pop-up blocking. Although SP 2 has a blocker as well. Between the two of them, I haven't had a popup in several months.

From your hijackthis log, tick these and "Fix"

bad:
* O16 - DPF: {9EB320CE-BE1D-4304-A081-4B4665414BEF} (MediaTicketsInstaller Control) - file://c:\x.cab
just not good:
* O2 - BHO: (no name) - {19A5667D-C843-7DC6-8754-62550DF32919} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\kjovj.dll
(winlogon.exe does not run in this manner, there's probably a unicode character like an i with a ` rather than the normal dot of the i, which means bad shit)
* O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Hbc] C:\WINDOWS\System32\w?nlogon.exe
I don't know what this one is, but it looks bad (things shouldn't be running from there):
* O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Sodm] C:\Documents and Settings\Ben\Application Data\peno.exe
just a lame menu item installed by bullshit programs that claim to remove spyware but aren't really:
* O9 - Extra button: Your PC is infected with Spyware - click here to fix your PC - {FB74C951-ACA1-4e33-A94C-A9261EB2CCB7} - https://www.spydeleter.com/order2.php?KBID=1062 (file missing)

The O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [KB826939] should go away before long, could be from a windows update you did, or its something mascarading as one. Time will tell.

Hope that helps,

and

get Mozilla or Firefox and solve a lot of problems for yourself.

if you are smart about it you can get around popups. they are all caused by spyware/adware on your computer. one important thing you should check for is gator, or gain. you might not THINK you installed it, but if you downloaded the free version of DiVX off the internet, it actually installs the gator advertisement information network (GAIN). kazaa and snood do this also. if you ever install a program that comes in a "bundle" it means it comes bundled with adware. i recommend buying (snicker) the commercial version which comes without adware.

also, if you are observant you can find out what is adware and what is a system resource. if it's been a while since a format you probably have tons of crap running in the processes tab when you hit control-alt-delete. some of them are self explanitory (explorer.exe, taskmgr.exe...) but some are a little confusing. lsass.exe, spoolsv.exe. but if you see anything in that list that looks fishy (savenow.exe) scrap it. that's my advice anyway

Thanks for the tips. I've fixed up my HijackThis log a bit. But, no matter what I do, I cannot remove:

* O9 - Extra button: Your PC is infected with Spyware - click here to fix your PC - {FB74C951-ACA1-4e33-A94C-A9261EB2CCB7} - https://www.spydeleter.com/order2.php?KBID=1062 (file missing)

I also installed GoogleBar and updated my "Hosts" file in: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc

That file is suppose to block know addresses that generate popups. I found an updated file on: http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

Thanks

You have popups installed on your computer. They got their from either having your IE security settings too low and they installed themselves or from something you downloaded and installed. There is no way of getting around them unless you can find a program to get rid of them, or find the files and reg keys yourself (lots of intenisve work, but always solves the problem). Firefox will dramtically reduce the amount of web popups you get, but that won't last long. With more and more people switching to FireFox more webapges will impliment popups to target FireFox.
