Does anyone know if there is a heat pipe cooling unit made for a Socket A AMD?
Mine is an xp2800+ and the noise is starting to be bothersome.
Thanks

Heatpipe as in strictly passive cooling??? I doubt it, especially if you're talking about CPU coolers. The Thermalright SP-97 or XP-90 coolers have heatpipes that are used on the heatsink, but you have to have a fan on them or you'll burn up your chip. You might try water if you want a quieter solution.

I know that zalman sells a completely passive case where NO fans are used at all, but it costs about $1,200.

I have a Vantec TMC fan... (tornado I think) and it's quiet as can be. I run my 2500 OCed to 3200 and it stays around 110f with my direct sensor. Onboard tells me it's around 95f.

It's probably not a tornado, maybe it's a stealth. Tornado fans aren't quiet unless they're running less than 2300 RPM.

Well you can't go wrong with a Thermalright heatsink. They are a bit pricey though, I don't know if they sell the sp-97 anymore, but it used to be around $50. Couple that with a 92mm Tornado and you have one of the best air cooling solutions around (if you don't mind the noise). If you do get a tornado, GET A FAN CONTROLLER or else you will hate it. The SLK-948 is also good, but doesn't have heatpipes. And forget what I said about the xp-90, it's not socket A compatible.

Yeah. I can attest that the SP-94 works really damn well. I have it on my P4 2.8 oc'd to 3.4, 880 fsb with some OCZ paste and temps dropped 15 deg. No shit. Load temps are 30-32. Awesome. I have the Big ass vantec tornado on it, the 119 CFM. And yes its LOUD. Fan controller highly recommended. ITs rated at 50db. A restaurant like McDonalds at lunch time is rated at 55db.

Thermaltake has something out for P4's and Athlons. Anyway, its this 1 pound block of copper that sits like 6 inches off of your cpu and cools with passive cooling, so that might be an option for you. Only thing is, it had a bad rating on OcForums. Some said it might bend the Mobo a bit to much. anyway, heres the link.

Good luck.

Load temps of 30-32? According to what? Those sound like watercooled temps to me. I'd only trust external sensors, those sensors on the board are usually 5-8C off.

Yeah. The internal sensors were saying like 25 for load temps. I would have like that, but i was like no fucking way. So i got some external sensors and yeah, 30-32 load temps.

Anyway, about that TT cooler...I wouldn't even come close to that thing. Go with the Thermalright.

Oh yeah. Totally agreed. I was just giving him passive cooling heatpipe options. Thermaltake sucks. Thermalright is where its at.

Here is another great HS. Swiftech is known for the extraordinary job they do lapping the heatsink.
