on my last install of windows for some reason autoplay didn't work. at first it bugged me, but i turned out to like it.

after reinstalling windows of course autoplay works, and i'd like to turn it off. anyone know how to permanently disable autoplay? th eonly option i could find was one that let me chose which action to perform when certain types of CDs were installed. but double clicking an app cd still tries to find an autoplay file

i'd prefer to just double click a CD icon and have it open teh contents of the CD

right click on your CD rom drive, goto second little tab, and click the top circle for each different type of CD, and selecttake no action, that should disable it...

I think nsrbb5 is talking about double-clicking on the CD-ROM drive from My Computer, which in all versions of Windows before XP just opened the CD in Explorer to show its contents. Now it autoplays. I think that is what nsrbb5 wants to change.

I don't know if you can do it without software. Download TweakUI - Powertools for Windows. It has an option to do that in there.

Start > Run > regedit > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > System > CurrentControlSet > Services > Cdrom. Set autorun to 0.
