I'm looking at getting a www.[...].com domain name address, and I really don't know how to go about it. The name I'm thinking of isn't currently taken by any site or held hostage by one of those domain-name auction sites, so I'm pretty sure it's not being used.

How do I go about making it mine and registering it with a DNS? Am I going to have to pay a fee?

1. pick a registrar from icann.org
2. go to that registrar.
3. buy the address you want.

that's it. you will set up nameservers & dns stuff after you buy it. will you pay a fee? yes... hence the "buy" part.

it'll cost you about $5+ a year for a domain
then you have to figure out where to host your files
if you are going to get host and pay for storage and bandwidth (monthly fee as low as about $5 as well) then just register from them
if you will host it somewhere else then just get it from a registrar like godaddy.com

is tehre any way we can host our files on our personal umr public files, get an ip forwarder to our adress... bc id like to get a name and just use the umr space ive got avaliable, since i wont need more then 100mb for now atleast
