hey, do you think you could send me the info on getting it too? I'll download it from you when I get back to Rolla on Sunday so I don't hog your connection over the VPN while I'm at home

Has anyone gotten that image to work in PearPC? dmg2iso spits out a bootable ISO file, but PearPC never boots all the way.

I don't know much about Pear PC but I think it is awesoe that you are trying it out, I would love to see it if you get it working
and would kindly volunteer my 10.3 disk to the cause.

when i had my pc I could get pearpc to run and boot my 10.3 CD, but for some reason, 10.3 refused to install on the disk image. It formatted it to HFS (the mac format) but said it wasnt able to install on the drive. So good luck with it, I hear PearPC is incredibly slow even on fast PCs

If someone could share a known-good 10.3 ISO that would help me narrow down the problem I'm running into. I'm not 100% that I'm converting the 10.4 dmg file correctly, and that may be messing it up. Not sure why Apple thought that creating a non-standard compressed iso format was a good idea, but there you are.
Or, could someone with a real Mac convert the 10.4 dmg to an ISO and share it?

I would be glad to convert the DMG to an Iso, acctualy I need to do that anyway. I will let you know when I have done that.
and, Yes, I am one of the ones lucky enough to have a real mac!
so am I, I'll be grabbing 10.4 in a sec...might have to run out to wally world to get some dvd-rs though
I was unable to install it from the file so I converted it to an ISO and burnt it on a windows machine but then my mac could not boot to it. If you are burning it on a Mac and you can boot to it let me know and I can give you a DVD-R or would be willing to give you a few bucks for a copy.

I've got a torrent going, it should hopefully be done by the time I get back from my 2 classes in the morning. If its done, Ill run out to WalMart and get some DVD-Rs and let you know how it goes
well, crap. I got the dmg off Bittorrent and burned it to a DVD. My powermac won't boot off of it, I hold C down to boot from the disc and after a few seconds, it kernel panics. Fred, I'll give the DVD to you in CS1 Thursday and see if you have any better luck
so according to something I read, you cant boot off a burned DVD, but here's a workaround I read about:

you can install Tiger from a DMG file but only to a different partition. i installed my Tiger on the second patition from a DMG copied on my iPod. the trick is NOT TO use the installer as it appears on the desktop, but to go to the original installer packages which should be somewhere in the System folder of the Tiger DMG file. if .mpkg gives you a trouble, you can go to .pkg'es to install Tiger step by step manually.
edit: I went ahead and did this method and it works well for installing Tiger. However, I installed it on my iPod and it's incredibly slow. If you have an iPod, its a great way to test Tiger, but it's by no means fast enough for regular use
