i got these to play with, but :
1. i don't have time
2. i don't actually need it
3. i don't know what to do with it

surely some computer junkie(s) around campus can have a use this.

ibm as/400 3xx server, with extension and expansion cabinet. i have all the data, twinax & power cables, keys, 3477 infowindow & keyboard, and even a couple books, too. all yours for the low, low price of only $500.

I'm intereseted, but I'd be in exactly the same boat as you. I've got too many other irons in the fire at the moment. Plus, I can't cough up that much any time soon. Sorry.

What's something like that thing run? AIX or some other oddball mainframe OS?

actually, it's (appropriatley)OS 400. it runs a lot more languages than i know.

Is it possible to assemble a working system with a video display, keyboard, and network access (standard 10/100 megabit Ethernet) from those components?

Ethernet? Bah. It's got a perfectly good token ring interface. Use it.

it has a monitor (infowindow) and keyboard.
as for 10/100, i'm sure it's possible, but i don't know how.

Nah, NetBSD wouldn't run, no mmu. anybody who wanted to run unix would have bought a RS/6000. NetBSD is a sweet os though.
