I've been reading how BE20 has been a bitch, and I whole heartedly agree, but I haven't complained about it until now. She is taking points off my AutoCAD drawings becuase I could not get them to print. I drew them up in an '04 version and was going to print them off at the CLC but the version they have is '02 and will not open my drawings. So my grade is already a 70% before it's even graded. Yeah, so fuck her.
Oh man.....i here ya there. Grantham is a can be quite a bitch, a hot bitch though, lol.
She grades our memos proggressively harder throughout the year. The last memo i had to write for our team, i didn't include and introduction. Siince none of our outher memos, which we had been getting A's on had to have an introduction. Minus 5 points, minus more points for refering to the figure number of attachments in the title, pages positiioned wrong, blah, blah, blah. Our memos keep getting better but our grades keep getting worse. Go figure.
Other than that, i must admit that it was nice to get out in the shop and work with my hands for awhile building our launcer (which works pretty well), instead of working with my mind studying and doing homework.

I told my dad about the stuff she was doing, as well as that one guy teaching Excel and AutoCAD, and he is going to write a letter to the BE department about having grad students for teachers. He says he paid for me to attend a high caliber university, and that doesn't mean one where the "teachers" don't know what they are doing or don't care about the students needs. He wants more involvement from faculty in the department and not students. Hopefully that will at least make them take a look at the teaching going on, or lack there of.

You are fucking dumb. A+-calibur dumb. Why don't you do everyone a favor and drop out before you screw things up for the rest of us.

Wow. Your dad is going to write a letter to complain about you being taught by a grad student? Yeah...cause we all know that no good university would allow that to happen on their campus.

I don't mean to sound like an asshole, but why don't you write it yourself? Then again i suppose i would proably have to write one too. Maybe all of us pissed off BE20 students should get toghether, write an angry letter, than all sign it. A letter with like 50-100 signatures on it would get their attention...dunno if it would change much though.
In HS i did write one very angry letter to the administration, after a speech that the JROTC insturctor gave on vertans day (it was full of political BS), and i like to think it made a difference but i don't know if it did.....

Ditto. Don't the frosh-tards realize that:
a) UMR is a _bargain_.
b) UMR is not as bad as other schools (especially the "high-caliber ones") about having graduate students teach _all_ of the sub 300 level classes.
Here's another clue for you, some of the best instructors on this campus are graduate students and most of them are a lot closer to the research/material than the professors are.

My dad is the one that is pissed, since he pays the tuition. HE wanted to write the letter, not me. I have talked to her a bit about some of the grading, and another group of students was talking to her today about it. I am disappointed in how they are going about teaching it this semester, but I can express my views in the evaluation at the end of the semester. My dad wants to write the letter, I didn't ask him to. This isn't high school, but my dad pays the university money to give a good education, and if he feels they aren't, then he should be able to voice his opinions.

snocat17 - First, you do realize that if you are having a problem with a GTA that is not getting resolved by discussing the problem with them there is always a professor that oversees the class and you can go talk to him/her.
Secondly, just because someone has a Ph.D. does not mean that they are going to know more about how to teach a class automatically, especially if they were never allowed to have the experience of teaching as a grad student. It also doesn't mean that they are going to care more about their students.
As a former GTA I think that I put a lot more effort into attempting to help my students than some of the professors that teach. There are bad apples in each group and if your father is going to write a letter to complain I think you need to make him understand that it might be that particular person and not all GTA's as a whole.
Why do people hate Fannin. I have him for BE10 and he's just kinda...meh. I hate BE10 but I don't hate Fannin. I'm sure if I had him for a real class, it might be different though.
As for the other stuff goes...It sucks you're not getting a good grade. But are you actually learning the stuff? You said yourself that teachers are paid to give you an education. They're not paid to just give you a grade, thats saved for HS teachers that don't care. When I told my mom that I got a C on the last physics test, she assumed it was Bienik's fault and wanted to write a letter. I told her she was gay and not to do it. Even though I got a C on it doesn't mean I haven't learned anything. I'd say I've learned more in the first half of phys 23 than I've learned in any class before it. This is also considering I hadn't even seen any physics in my life before this semester though.
In short: Quit complaining about your grade, its what you earned. Take it as a lesson (education) and do better next time.
I actually didn't think Fannin was too terrible. Got an A (only 1cr/hr, but hey), and BE10 did do its purpose and showed me the diffent degree programs UMR offers. If not, i would proalby be still going for ME and wasting a couple grand on tuition for classes for a major i'm not going to like.
However, i don't think i've ever heard anyone speak good of Fannin (besides a few on here). He could be a bit of an ass, but i didn't have a problem with him. I assumed everyone would give him a crappy evaluation b/c of the near seemingly unamious dislike of the man.
