The old Seek 42, while it was a very useful tool, was not nearly as good as it could have been. And as for the critics of the improvements, think of it like a computer: you can't just shove in more RAM and expect it to run better if the CPU is out of date and sucky. In other words, the old Seek was, well, old. I'm in full support of this rebuilding of Seek. Keep up the good work, admin.
I will make one suggestion though: I'm not saying you aren't, but try to keep your priorities straight. Focus on getting the search engine running and leave the luxuries (the tagging problems) for last. In my opinion this would be wisest.

Sure would be nice if it did that other thing it's supposed to do...
I have some stuff I want to do other stuff with and I can't do the stuff or use it with the other stuff without the thing working. When do you think that function of Seek42 that doesn't exist will... exist again?

Search doesn't work very well. For example I ran a search for "All American Rejects" and got some results, though not anywhere near as many as I was expecting. I then ran a search for just "Rejects" thinking could turn up more results. It returned nothing. On closer inspection it looks like it was only searching for "All American Rejects" (spelled ecatly like that) instead of running successive searches for "All American", "American Rejects", "All Rejects", "American", and "Rejects". It doesn't even search for instances that contain al three words, just the exact string. This is just what it looked like to me. The bare minimum it should do is search for anything conataining all of the words in the search, and then later searches for things with some of the words in the search. The old system may have been bloated, but it worked pretty well. Sure it may not have been the best way of doing things, but does it really matter in the end so long as its working? The "old system" did go through several improvements other than just shoving more RAM into the box as anyone whose been around since before WS2003 can tell you. The main site changed a lot that semester and so did the interface. The main search functionality remained fairly unchanged because it worked, and as they say "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." This is just my point of view and I could very well be wrong on a few points, but this new system isn't working too well and the old one worked just fine. I'm not trying to piss anyone off here, so don't take anything I say here as a personal attack on anyone. I'm also not saying you guys should stop what you're doing and go back to the old system. I just wish the new one had been tested more extensively before the old one was taken down.
