I recently upgraded to XP, after putting it off until XP was actually released. Unfortunately my comp now goes crazy and reboots itself whenever I try to do anything like watch a movie, play a game, or sometimes even just try to open a folder. I think the problem is with XP not recognizing my video card, a VisionTek GeForce2 PRO. I have the latest drivers for my video card, and it works just fine in Win98 (I dual booted). Any help on this subject would be greatly appreciated because this is driving me crazy and I am about to swear off of XP forever.

wow... your knowledge is amazing. That is a very helpfull tidbit you gave there.

As far as the problem goes, it probably has something to do with XP not liking something you have installed (hardware or software). I would suggest ripping it appart and installing things one at a time to figure out which it is..

or, alternately, you could go and install WIN2K PRO.. :)

Are the drivers you're using made for XP? I'd check the documentation to be sure. XP is "officially" very new in the corporate eye, so the first thing I'd suspect are buggy drivers. If the trouble heeds your computer usage, you might want to take off XP, wait a month or so for updated drivers to come out, and then reinstall.

NVIDIA has released Detonator XP recently, I would install it. The new drivers increase performance noticeably, and I haven't had a problem w/ my GeForce 256 under WinXP build 2600. Also, look for conficts in your device manager, there might be an overused irq or something.

Hope that helps!

The problem is with my video card. For some reason XP just doesn't recognize it. There are no IRQ conflicts, I checked that. I have the Detonater XP drivers so unless there are new ones, within the last couple of days, then I have the latest ones. I am about to goto Win2000, but I have been told that Win2000 may have the same problem so I have still been trying to get XP to work. Thanks everybody who gave it a shot.
