I just noticed that Seek42 is not listing much of the content from my computer. All of my shared stuff is in one folder called "Public Share." Every other folder in that directory is inheriting permissions which makes sharing extremely easy to manage.

Why does Seek42 not list my files that are shared? I'm just wondering, because there may be thousands of useful files out there that no one knows about. Can this be fixed?

Ok first of all, do you ever leave your computer on over night. Seek42 scans your computer usually late at night (sometimes thats not true i believe). So try that first, im not sure how often it scans, but you do need to allow for this at one point. Other than that, just make sure your rights to the folder are set correctly, especially if you're using XP. Thats all the help i can give.

Something I thought of...if the user limit is reached, seek42's little routine that gets your directory listings will be denied access, and it will assume you have nothing shared in that directory.

You could add seek42 as it's own user, and always give it access.

neither of those is the case. I leave the computer on 24/7, and I have no max # of connections. I simply have a Public_Share folder with a guest permissions. Guest account has no password. I'm running Win2K Pro.

Any other Suggestions? Maybe I should just email Ryan and see if he knows.

I run 2k as well and it doesn't really list my shares either. However, when you try to access my shares, it pops up with a username/password request. If you think to try "guest" with no pw, or you happen to see my remarks about the shares (stating that user is guest, no password), you're ok. I guess seek42 isn't set up to handle that kind of stuff, though.

Perhaps if we asked Seville, we'd be able to get $40,000 university funding to lease the google search engine.

Actually, I did email Ryan and he confirmed that I was right. If you have a max # of connections, and it is reached, seek42 will not be able to get a directory listing. :)

I have Win 2000, and I was having the same problem with my share. However, I went in and blanked out all the options under the guest account. (See administrative tools/computer management) That seemed to do the trick and get rid of the stupid password thingy.

Nobody said your were wrong null... I thought it was pretty obvious that what you said earlier was true. Bigfattitty was stating that he had no max connections set so that wasnt relevant.

I would like to thank you for speaking on someone else's behalf...

Also, he said "neither of those is the case." Right after I posted something. Maybe you should read a little more carefully. I don't know why HE said he had no max connections to back up his assertion that "neither of those is the case" since THAT is irrelevant.

Thank you, Alcahuete.

Seek42 connects to machines with the username "seek42" and no password.
