Anybody know how to set a user limit on Windows XP? I'm not talking about setting a maximum number of users per folder, but setting a maximum number of user sessions total, regardless of what folder in which they are browsing. Maybe a way to set a maximum number of simultaneous logins on the guest account? Any ideas?
On another note, does anybody know of a better program besides NetWatcherPro to monitor shares and maintain kicklists? It has too little features, and I'm looking for something different.
what i would do ... if i was concerned with such a thing would just be to set up the directories you're sharing in a hierarchy. Say I want to share out mp3s and videos folder put them in a new folder called "shared" or something.. it doesn't matter ultimately, then right click, go to the sharing tab, and then click Allow this number of users. .. I'm pretty sure this does not answer your question, but I suspect something like maximum # of users would be a security hazard, in and of itself. How would admin logon if users were maxed out?

they are subject to the maxconnections limit on a share. On windows2k pro/winxp pro, this is hard-coded to 10. I know this limitation applies to administrators because I've recently run into it when trying to set maxconnections on box (box now has no max connections, as before...). I'm not browsing it as guest, but as my admin user.

that may be true from a remote location, but i was talking about from the pc that the accounts are on. it will always let you log on as admin if you are sitting right there staring at it. i have tried this.

oh, ok. I thought you meant remote connections (via telnet, shares, remote desktop(although this is limited to one, unfortunately)), although I see now you are meaning logged in users. I'm guessing you have more users set up on the system than you want to be able to log in simultaneously, because otherwise since one user can only log in one time, it would be limited by the number of users on the system. I'll see if I can find the parameter you're looking for, but I don't think it exists in XP. (can you do this under *nix?)
