From what I've observed, people in the dorms aren't motivated enough to care about anything, including St. Pats. They administration tries to get students involved via RA's and hall government funding but it rarely has an effect.

I think 7N is getting into it, making a helluva big cudgel.

I don't think us "dormies" get involved in anything to the tremendous extent that fraternities do for several reasons.
A) We are much to large a body to have the bonding that is possible in fraternities so the competition level isn't quite as high
B) The diversity in the dorms is so large that separate programs never appeal to the whole body, so we're always divided in some way anyways
Personally I plan on going to every St. Pat event I can these coming weeks, and anyone that wants to accompany, it'll be a great time.
Just my $0.02

What is St. Pats like in the dorms?
The biggest part of people not getting involved in St Pat's in the dorms is that people aren't generally aware of what is going on. In frats (what I assume anyway) is that St. Pat's is hyped from day one. If you asked most people in the dorms, St. Pats is about drinking, you wouldn't hear anything about the competition aspect. The dorms also don't have the sense of community that frats do. In the dorms its more like a group of guys who get together to eat and form Counter Strike clans. In the frats it seems like it is more of a 'let's be the best frat on campus' type of thing. Naturally this is a generalization, but I think it is mostly true.
Res Life tries very hard to keep the partying in the dorms to a minimum. However, the RAs this year seem to be only interested in doing as little work as possible. It will be interesting to see if anyone tries to pull anything.

You make some good points of why it is harder for non-Greeks to get involved in the St. Pat's celebration, but more importantly you show that it doesn't mean you CAN'T get involved. For everyone else out there, if you don't know what St. Pat's is about - make sure you find out before you graduate and miss out. Greeks don't want St. Pat's to be exclusive to fraternities and sororities - this is a celebration for the entire student body, the entire town, and anyone else crazy enough to try to party like we do. Here's to the 94th Best Ever St. Pat's!!
