First of all thanks to everyone who replied with advice. I took your advice and purchased a network card, an ethernet cable and a cross-over cable. I have everything installed and now I'm faced with trying to get these two machines to talk to one another.

I've searched the "help" section of Win-98 under "networking" but that has proved to be useless. I'd like to think this is as simple as setting up a new modem connection but that isn't the case. Can anyone give me a heads up on what to do? I've installed the network card software but I'm clueless on what to do next.

When you click on networking under the control panel and ask to set up a new account it asks for an IP address.. uggggg

HELP!!!!

I'm sure there are many others more knowledgeble than I, but just to get you started, your IP address can be located (if not using Windows XP) using "winipcfg" in your Start->Run. Your hardware address, which you also may need can be found there too. As for connecting the machines to eachother...... me = clueless.

ok now once you are into the network settings just enter something like 10.0.0.1 for one of the computer's IP and 10.0.0.2 for the other computer's IP. The subnet mask should be 255.255.255.0 for both of them. Enable filesharing and have them hooked together with the cross cable unless you have a hub. You might have to restart to get them to see each other and what not but as long as its just hooking two computers together with a cross cable that should do it for you. I have only done this with 98/me but i figure if you can get to where the network settings are the rest is the same.

Someone thats to lazy to register cause he is done with school for the year!!
