Hey Guys,
Just reinstalled windows after installing my new motherboard, and was wodering if I could change the drive letters without reformatting (ie my windows partition is now named F: or something crazy, and I want it to be c:...)
Right click My Computer, hit "Manage", and click on Disk Management in the left pane (under the Storage header about 2/3's of the way down the pane).
Right click on a partition in the lower right pane and pick "Change drive letters and paths". Hit Edit and pick a new one. Note that if you have a drive that already owns the letter you want to change the current one to, you'll have to change the original one to a temporary letter first.
Example: You have a hard drive D and a CD ROM E. You want to swap the two of them. You'll have to name the CDROM something else (F). Then name the hard drive E, and then name the CDROM D.

So this will work on renaming drive partitions as well as optical/cdrom drives?
Since I want to do both (Change the letters for my opticals and EACH of my separate drive partitions) it would be killer wicked sweet if this all was this easy....

hay disk manager wont change your primary drive, only way to do that is to luck out with one of those drive magic or what ever programs, best way to reletter your primary drive is to just redo it man
there are other ways around it, but it entails luck or regediting the hell outta your computer and hoping it doesnt fuck up
but itll work for all the oither drives np

I think I have an idea...
If you'll let me back up my files an' shit (on the 56gb partion), I can go into XP pro setup, delete the partition, restart w/o installing windows, then boot to window, and windows SHOULD be on the C: drive now....
I love microsoft. I'll come to see you after lunch, will (gots me a clas to go to at 11).
do you read at all? zkissane already pointed out how easy it is to change non-system drive letters, and trunks pointed you to a MS article telling how to change the system drive letter. what more do you want?
