I haven't seen any trailers for this movie, but I think I know what you mean. The movie is just more serious than I thought it would be. It is still funny, of course, but it has an air of sadness covering it, like, well, old people. Bruce Campbell plays an awesome Old Elvis, I thought; he delivers Elvis' famous lines in a way that makes you laugh, all while showing you how shitty it is to live in a retirement home - especially when everyone thinks he is just a senile perverted old man with a wart on his dick who thinks he is Elvis. Then you add in the cowboy mummy - Bubba Hotep - and it gets silly-scary. I thought the movie was really good, but I can definately see why it will not appeal to the masses, not that it was intended to - quite indie in every way.
BTW, I would love to have a copy of this, too.

the guy that lives next door to me is one of those internet kleptos who downloads tons of movies. he's got basically everything... he didn't even know what bubba hotep was he just downloaded it because it was a "new release"
but he has his movie shares hidden because he was being overrun with streamers and copiers. it's only like 400 megs in two files, i'll redownload it and share it if no one else has it
oh ya
i thought it would be more of an army of darkness type movie. more action, and more silly. bruce campbell was awesome, and ossie davis was really good as JFK too. the interaction and dialogue between those two was really good "an asseater?" but the movie seemed really slow. i don't even think the mummy showed his head in the first forty minutes of it
