I did a recent virus scan of my system and found 5 instances of the Nimda virus of it. They were all quarantined and I have taken appropriate action against them.. but i still want everyone to be as safe as possible. One of the instances was located in my C:/media/music/Tenacious D/ directory (shared directory).
I believe I originally got the virus through an executeable 'readme.exe' file located on someone's shared folder. My system will still be formatted to rid myself of any chance of getting Nimda back. That is one bad ass virus!!!

Or if you give your room mate a guest account and he decides to open random *.exe files he found online. It didn't matter anyway, I had to reformat anyway after the mobo switch. A7V8X boards are nice.
i know i'm wasting my breath because i'm sure everyone here is aware of the MASSIVE security flaw built into all versions of XP, but then again, even my computer savvy friends back home had nimbda all in their shit after a while --
when you set up your computer to share files, WINDOWS XP will create a folder called "Shared Documents". it will create some useless "Sample Pictures" and "Sample Music" directories. no one EVER uses these folders, because the contents of these folders are all identical, and no one ever feels like moving all their shit into their "shared folder"
but when this "shared folder" is created, it is automaticlaly shared, and grants write access by default. it took me weeks of norton quarntining files to find the source of them.
if you don't know what i'm talkin' bout, be sure to check for this folder.
and if you are ever browing the network and see someone with "Shared Folder", try copying movies over to their hard drive. its great! it's like an extra couple gigs of storage space that they don't even know about!
