I've just got around to buying a gamecube super cheap and was wondering if anyone out there did Gamecube Modding?

It uses Phantasy Star Online and a Nintendo GameCube Broadband Adapter. Both of which are pretty cheap, maybe around $40-60 for both items.

This really isn't modding par...say, it just uses a memory card to run the GCube iso's and doesn't involve any physical hardware except a $5 memory card.


I guess I'm just looking to see what kind of feedback I get from this.

I'm pretty sure it streams the game from a harddive in a computer, that's why you need the adapter. Phantasy Star allows you to do something with you ip. one of the broken episodes talks about it.

yeah, I know how to do it. I just didn't know if anyone else has done it or if there is a underground GameCube group here.

I used to do it, but its not exactly the best. The adapter operates at a relatively slow speed, so the transfer rate was kind of bottlenecked which made for choppy framerates, delayed audio (no audio in some cases), and an overall cheap experience. The gamecube scene kind of died about 6 months ago when everyone gave up on finding a better method. There was talk of a possibility of modding the BBA and being able to get more speed out of it, but I don't think anything ever came from it. The problem with the GCN scene, is that it never really formed a centralized community outside of a few IRC channels, so finding information on it now is rather difficult unless you come across some logs. I apologize for the vagueness of the information, this is all coming from memory.

You came along with rather unfortunate timing. I had ~150gigs of GCN related docs/images/tools, but deleted them last week. Your best bet for more info/files, is to check out some newsgroups.

Out of curiousity, how cheap is a "super cheap" gamecube, and where'd you get it from? Mine is on the fritz with DREs. Plus I could always use a couple more for Mario Kart lans.

What a waste of 30 mins. The interview with Kevin Mitnick was slightly, I repeat slightly interesting. I like how by today's standards any wise guy with a video camera thinks he can become a movie star. Not the first lame startup video series I've seen, and I'm sure it's not the last.

Worseley you can probably respect my opinion here...if you've seen the video...these guys "mod" a PS2, XBOX, and GC. They just open the cases and show the chips already soldered in and say "don't try this without a steady hand". They don't mention obtaining software, or anytype of installation diagram. Then with the xbox...they say "and now we're going to drop in a new hard drive". Bam...a sweet new 120 gig drive...look it's up and running....Absolutely no explanation whatsoever...and then one of the guys agrees that the X2.3 lite is a great chip because it's solderless.

They go through the modding process in under 4 minutes which is complete BS, I couldn't even explain the process of doing any one alone in 4 minutes hardware, software and directions.

It's a little intertaining... but it's funny how they think their hackers because they can mod all the consoles.

LOL...nice...melting the laptop wasn't that cool...If the explosive was prefashioned inside of the laptop and allowed for a 'red button' press on the laptop itself...it would be much cooler. Why didn't they just drown the laptop in deisel fuel?

I agree with you on how they did it, but I took it as a quick example of one. If I actually did it I'd probably empty out a Floppy drive or something and make it that way.

i have a couple detailed explanations on how to do it where to find stuff for gamecube etc. somewhere on my hard drive. unfortunatly i'm copying shit around my disks right now... i would recommend seeking for "gamecube" i think i got the stuff from here
