I have a legit copy of the game, and a legit key. Problem is, an old roommate used the key to register himself with Steam, so I'm boned three ways from Sunday, and really in the mood to pwn some n0bbins. If I buy, let's say Source or Condition Zero, would I then be able to register with Steam with those codes and, in theory, be able to play a normal game with Steam, or would I only be able to Source/CZ games?

What do you mean by "normal games"? Don't quote me on this, because I'm not entirely sure (which is why I hate the Steam system so much, so hard to keep track of) but I bought HL2, and I can play HL2, CS:S, HL2: DM, CS, DoD, HL, HL: Blue Shift, and Opposing Force on Steam (or at least that's what's on my "play games" list).

i believe if u buy and of the new games from steam u get all the classics

nope you cant play CS 1.6 with HL2, well at least not with the bronze package or whatever. thats what i got, and i have to use my old steam account to play 1.6. though you just need some steam product to run either a CS 1.6, HL2:DM or CS:S server.

Buying condition zero, through steam at least, gets you a 1.6 account.

Ok, ya, I should of been more clear that by "normal" I meant 1.6. I guess I'll buy CZ and use that key to register myself with Steam.

Just wanted to clarify that I'd be able to play on 1.6 games, and not just CZ games. Am wanting to, eventually, get into a CAL team and whatnot.

still though the $60 for 10 games well not really 10 games but a few games with ridiculous amounts of variations for online multiplayer. totally worth it

i think u can get it at walmart

gold and silver packages are only available through steam to the best of my knowledge. you can, however, buy HL2 at walmart, but i dont think it comes with any of the other games. I bought Silver over the summer and i'm psyched that DOD:S is going to be released this month (preloads in the next few days, then 26th is release day).
