What do you think are the top 5 albums that have been released this year?

I'd have to say, in no particular order:

Nine Inch Nails - With Teeth
The Mars Volta - Frances the Mute
Darkest Hour - Undoing Ruin
Sage Francis - Healthy Distrust
The Rise - Reclamation Process

Honorable Mention:
Kanye West - Late Registration
Dream Theater - Octavarium (too many weak songs to be in the top 5, but the title track is sublime)
Mudvayne - Lost and Found (their first album was a masterpiece [because they worked on it for over 5 years], and they've gotten progressively worse)
Screams of Erida - Burn the World (only an EP....)
Slipknot - Subliminal Verses
System of a Down - Mezmerize (besides most of Steal This Album, weakest album they've made)
Behold...The Arctopus - Nano-nucleonic Cyborg Summoning (again, only an EP...)

Of course, this is completely disregarding the fact that I haven't yet listened to:
Opeth - Ghost Reveries
Avenged Sevenfold - City of Evil
Lightning Bolt - Hypermagic Mountain
Coheed and Cambria - Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV, Vol. 1
The Plot to Blow Up THe Eiffel Tower - Love in the Fascist Brothel
Queens of the Stone Age - Lullabies to Paralyze
Mindless Self Indulgence - You'll Rebel To Anything
Hella - Church Gone Wild/Chirpin' Hard
Bloodhoung Gang - Hefty Fine

all of which could very well be in the running for top of the year.

Ok, that's my big music post for the year, I'm beat.

I wasn't too happy with the new NIN

Mindless Self Induglence - You'll Rebel to Anything (as long as it's not challenging)

Steal this album was all B-sides from the recordings of toxicity, so you can't complian there.

My top 5:
SOAD: Mesmerize
SOAD: Hypnotize
Gorillaz: Demon Days
AudioSlave: Out of Excile
Seether: Karma and Effect

Is funny. The more sober Mudvayne gets, the less people seem to like their music. Personally, I much prefer Lost and Found to LD50.

i couldnt remember if that came out this or last year, i like it a lot but i couldnt prefer one to the other, its more of a transistion band.

and i cant stand audioslave anymore, the more i hear it, i just want rage and soundgarden back. so it was a good album but it makes me sad

I can't stand Audioslave. His voice is so monotonic

Lost and Found seems to generic to me. I was a huge fan of The End of All Things to Come, great album when I was more in to heavier music. Also quite unique. L.D. 50 was pretty good, Death Blooms and the various mixes of Dig are pretty cool.

On another not I just torrented the Bloodsimple album, not qutie through it yet but so far I'd say it is awesome....nice to hear some really good heavier music again.

Correct, but they released it as an album, so I CAN complain. Or actually, I'm not complaining, I still love the album, I just don't consider it to be "great."

Well, considering I hardly even listen to any modern music, I'll just put up about the only 5 albums I have gotten this year, in no particular order:

Audioslave - Out of Exile (still wish Rage and Soundgarden were around though)
Alkaline Trio - Crimson
Franz Ferdinand - You Could Have it so much Better
The Bravery - The Bravery

And even though its not out yet, it will be in a week and a half and it will most certainly rock:
The Darkness - One Way Ticket to Hell... And Back!

I guess since I'm the only person to listen to jazz, I'll throw in my top 5 jazz albums of the year.

Wayne Shorter - Beyond the Sound Barrier
SFJazz Collective - Inaugural Season Live
Joshua Redman - Momentum
Keith Jarrett - Radiance
Miguel Zenon - Jibaro
