I'm running a WRT54GS Linksys router as a switch with the DD-WRT v23 firmware, so as a result each of my computers grabs an IP from the school instead of some internal 192.168.1.100 address. The only problem is that my router still sits with a 192.168.1.1 address. The only way I can currently access my router's setup page is by setting my IP address manually into the 192.168.1.100 range and then accessing the setup page. So I want to be able to access the router setup page without having to change my IP address.

Here's a shot of the config page

And yes I want to do this on my WinXP machine not my Mac.

So what you're telling me is... you have your DHCP disabled, and basically having your wireless router working as an expensive WAP/switch? If anything you should be able to register the LAN mac (00:0F:66:A4:9C:E8) and then statically set the LAN ip to a 131.151. address (as long as that ip isnt in use).

I doubt you'll get away with statically assigning your IP...

You'll always get away with it until someone notices.

I was using a similar setup last year.

I setup an Alternative Configuration in Windows and would just unplug the LAN cable from the router forcing Windows to use the Alt Config.

From the screenshot it looks like your running OSX. I'm not very familiar with it, but you may be able to do something similar.

Aside from that, there isn't a viable alternative to what you're asking. When you pull an IP from UMR, the DHCP server automatically sets the default gateway and subnet. In order to admin the router, your gateway will need to be set to the router's IP and possibly need the same subnet.

Try this:

Write down your external mac address

Turn off DHCP

A) Set external port 80 to internal port 80 IP address 192.168.1.1 with forwarding (cheapo remote admin)
OR
B) Turn on remote admin

Register the router's external mac address with umr

Reboot the Router and try to access it with R[insert number][umr login].desktop.umr.edu

Hopefully the router will pull an external address from UMR, so will all computers using it, and you can admin the router from the above dns name because the router has the UMR IP A) cleared for admin or B) forwarded to an administratable address.

Just run it as a hub... why do you need to access the config anyway?
