Anybody got any experience on this sort of thing. I'm not real familiar with installing SATA stuff and am having a bitch of a time getting my motherboard to recognize that the drive exists. Anything I've worked on in the past (all IDE) has been pretty much just like hook it up and away you go, but apparently this technique doesn't work for this technology.

Does the BIOS not recognize it, or does the Windows installer not recognize it? I've always had to get a driver floppy to get anything but IDE stuff to work with the Windows installer. You might be able to slipstream the drivers in, but that takes a fair amount of work and a couple of different programs.
If you are installing windows on the HDD you HAVE to use the driver disk and load the driver that way, windows installers recognize SATA controllers as something similar to RAID (I know its not but the installer treats it as so). If you already have it installed windows should recognize it enough to ask you for the driver disk.

I think I may have found the problem. Had WD bothered to include a fucking jumper this thing may have stood a chance of working without me spending 6 damn hours messing with it.
