I've been invited into the freshman honor society, Phi Eta Sigma.

...yay...

So is there any benefit to joining this thing, or is it just another organization that you pay to be in and get no real benefit...except a plaque?

No real benefit, stick your penis in the recruiters' eyes.

I don't think that Phi Eta Sigma is the same as the honors program, but I don't really know.

What I DO know is that if you're in the honors program, you are allowed to dual-enroll for two semesters instead of just one. For anybody who doesn't know what dual-enrollment is, it allows you to take graduate classes for graduate credit while still being considered an undergraduate.

The 'freshman' honors society is a joke. If you're in engineering or math get into your major's soceity and for engineers, Tau Beta Pi, the Engineering Honors Society.
