Hi,

This may be my first post but I've lurked here for a long time. Finally decided to register and ask the Users of seek42 what they think of the ctrax service ( http://www.ctraxmusic.com ).

I am the campus marketing manager for the ctrax service, I'm in charge of getting people to sign up for the service, spreading the word around, and finding out what you guys think of it.

The cost is small, $15 a semester or $3 a month for high quality(128-192bit) files. It's charged to your student account so if you have excess scholarship money, or parents are paying for school, you won't even notice anything. There are over 2 Million songs featured and they are adding more everyday.

We'd also like to promote local bands, so if any of you are in a band or have friends in one, let me know. If anyone has any questions, please post and I'll do my best to reply.

Those of you who have signed up, please respond here and give me some feedback, I'd really like to know what you enjoy and what you dislike about the service.

Thanks,

Mike

PS(If I have violated any rules please let me know, I looked over them and didn't see anything that pertained to this.)

Bittorrent = Free
CTrax = $15
Bittorrent = No DRM. High bitrate MP3s
CTrax = DRM, crappy WMAs.

If I'm going to pay for music (which I do), I would rather buy music that I can put on my iPod. I also don't want to continue to pay to continue to use my music. It just isn't worth the cost. Maybe if they were sold as mp3, I would consider buying. Same reason I don't buy from iTunes. If I ever don't have an iPod anymore, I want to be able to listen to my music with whatever other player I want.

Your life would be much easier, and this would sell easier, if it wasn't easier, cheaper, and more legal to pirate music. While this is a nice intention, you'll have to have a nice long talk with the folks at RIAA before this sells well.

Btw, since when does 128 kbps qualify as "high quality" ?

hey, does anybody have this yet. i want to know what it is like. not that i would want 128kb/s wma's. but it could be good for some of those harder to find items. I really wish people would go and bump up the norm to at least 192. i would love to see more 256's

I only listen to a very particular type of music. Unless I can have confirmation that it is avaliable, I won't bother with the hassle of even trying.
