ok, so my hdd karma died this sem. I've had a 120gig WD for 3.5ish years, was working fine last weekend, has music, etc, have it in an external enclosure. i leave for the day, my friend logs on to my guest acct (i still have progs running on mine) and does some shit (prob email, maybe music). i come back, log off guest, log back on to admin (mine) and try to play some music, winamp cant find the files. so i go and try to open them directly (can still see the drive at this point) and it tells me the drives not formatted, would i like to do this now.....so i stop the drive, shut it off, turn it back on, and now it just clicks every few secs after spooling up. when my comp recognizes it, its as an 80 gig, and i cant get it in my comp or device manager. im thinking it just crapped out, wondering if y'all had any suggestions.

also, after i reinstalled windows earlier this sem, the other patrtition on the windows drive diappeared in the windows environment. when i run knoppix it finds it, but i cant edit the files. wondering if y'all knew how to recover that stuff, id like most, if not all of it back.

sorry for the long descriptions, trying to get everything out there at once.

I have a WD 120 as well, and I have had my share of problems with it. Mine hasn't done quite what you are describing, but it did reformat itself several times. I'll look for the recovery software I used, but I can't guarantee that it will fix your problems.
