Outlook is not sending or receiving any emials i have.

When i go to tools and click on send emails. It give me an okay for sending items, though i have no items waiting to be sent, and error for receiving items.

Also, when i delete items in outlook, they stay in my miner mail. how do i change that.

Actually, my Thunderbird has been timing out when it tries to connect to Minermail. Anyone know anything about that?

I'm having problems with my outgoing mail server with thunderbird. I have the same settings on my pc as I do on my mac thunderbird, but the PC one wont send emails. I have the severname to be "smtp.umr.edu" at port 25 and "no" for the use secure connections setting. I do have the check on use user name and password and have my umr id as the username. It seems like Ive tried every different options but I still get an error saying it can't connect to the outgoing server. Any idea?

yea, like I can receive emails fine through it, just sending them out, I've tried just about every outgoing server setting and none work.

My Thunder Bird seems to be working.

The settings I'm using for outgoing SMTP are:

Server Name: minermail.umr.edu
Port: 25
Use secure connection: No

Hope that works for you.

Here's the settings I've always used for Thunderbird mostly on and sometimes off campus and it seems to work for me.

POP3
Server name: minermail.umr.edu
Port: 995
Username: joeminer@umr.edu
These items checked
Use secure connection (SSL)
Others are optional

SMTP
Server name: minermail.umr.edu
Port: 25
Checked: Use name and password
Username: joeminer@umr.edu
Use secure connection: No

I heard there were mac errors yesterday (Tuesday) with outlook, and everyone (I think) was out this morning. I think this is different than what you guys are talkin about though...

SMTP server is down.

I've used in the past:
smtp.umr.edu
port: 465
username: userid without @umr.edu
Secure Connection: SSL

Its failing for me too, I told IT about it.

EDIT:
The IMAP server still works for incomming email, however.

If you're switching from outlook, you may want to use the IMAP so you can access things besides the 'inbox' folder.

It seems IT added a step on the client setup to use SSL connection. I had the timing out problem with receiving e-mails on IMAP, checked the helpdesk for e-mail client setup, saw that I needed SSL turned on - turned it on, and it worked.

I never had used SSL turned on until this timeout error.
