I'm 99% sure I'm living off campus next year, but would still like a meal plan because I'll probably be eating lunch in Havener during the week. They have the 5 meals/week plus $300 declining balance. I'd have no use for the declining balance, but could use 5 meals a week. Does anyone know if Chartwells offers any meal plans not listed on the pamphlet RHA gave us? Maybe a cheaper meal plan they don't want us to know about since it's cheaper?

Actually, the declining balance would probably be helpful for you, since it can be used for delivery pizza and stuff. Unless that's more than you want to pay, it sounds like that plan could work out well.

Why pay for a meal plan that pays for pizza when you can just pay for pizza to begin with. You make no sense

Ditto.

1. The seek42 special @ Dominos can't be paid for with points
2. Imos and Pizza Hut don't take points, and those are my 2 favorite pizza places in town
3. Chartwells charges you a fee each time you use points
4. You lose any points you don't spend

I'd much rather pay for a plan with nothing more than 5 meals a week and pay for pizza out of my own pocket when I want it

I would think that it would be useful if you were busy on campus late and needed dinner.

It might be cheaper if you don't even bother with a meal plan, and just pay cash/credit whenever you go to Chartwell's.

5/week + $300DBD, is the smallest meal plan currently offered.

An alternative is purchasing "Commuter Points" It is purchased in $25 increments and used like "Declining Balance" plus an extra 5% off of purchases. Unlike DBD's, unused commuter points come back as check at the end of the year. So you don’t need to worry about using them all, or not having enough.

Just go home and eat, or walk to Hardee's, Dairy Queen, Taco Bell, or Panera. With the exception of Panera all are much cheaper than Chartwell's and have better food. Unless you like a long way from campus, you can go home and eat. I live about 7 blocks from campus and I usually just ride my bike home and eat lunch as opposed to buying something, much cheaper that way.

Bad idea. Chartwells deducts a $1 administrative fee for each off campus transaction. According to Nick (the owner of Domino's) the reason why Domino's can't offer the seek special (or any discounts) on points is because Chartwells also deducts ~30% from the transaction amount (so if your pizza costs $10, chartwells charges you $1, and the pizza company $3).

It sounds like paying cash/debit for each meal or charging it to your student account are both better options than buying a traditional meal plan.

If by late you mean 7:00, then yes it would be convient, but after that, they are closed.

Havener's grill and pizza are open until 8:30pm most nights, and Cup O'Joe is open almost until the building closes.

For me 7 is pretty late to be on campus without having gone home for food. Especially since I don't normally do anything on campus between 2 and 6.
