Alright guys, I don't know where if anywhere this belongs on the forums, so I will put it where I think the most people will see it.

So my folks are going to sell my paternal grandparents house. They were alive during the depression, so they never threw anything out, and they had tons of shit, old styrofoam things meat comes on, old plastic bread bags, old tuna cans, whatever you can imagine pretty much. So my fiance and I got elected to clean out their house (they had lived there for almost 50 years, so none of us had a clue what was there) and the second day of Spring Recess we get to move into the entry way type thing, two walls of solid cabinets. We find shitloads of trash, most of it unamazing (although I did find an old cup full of the little slivers of left-over soap bars  wtf) but moving on, we find some old stock papers. The papers are all told, 500 shares (at a dollar a piece) in a company named Los Angeles and Beaumont Oil Company from 1902. Now I thought I would do a quick Google and find out that they had gone out of business or something, well I couldn't find didly. So I took it to two different stock people, they couldn't find didly. One even called Arizona's Secratary of State (they were bought in Arizona) and you guessed it, didly. So my thoughts are, you guys are pretty good at navigating the internet, if you get bored I would greatly appriciate you trying to find something, anything about Los Angeles and Beaumont Oil Company. Especially if you could find out they were bought out by Phillips 66 and I am obscenely rich

If you guys find anything, links would be great. Again, I can't even find mention of this company, it is like they never existed...

Thanks in advance....

Good job, now we think it existed. We can talk about a finders fee when you find out what happened to it as long as it was bought out by an oil company still around today, and is worth millions of dollars

The first one was the only one I found with something relative, do I suck at teh internet that bad?

well, it says they're worth $36, so 500x$36... that's enough to fix up my motorcycle...

Dang, I bet I could have found a bunch of stuff in their house that you all threw (or will throw) out that I'd LOVE to have. I am interested in a bunch of stuff a lot of stuff people wouldn't consider keeping, especially some of the older stuff people who grew up in the depression would keep.

Ah, but how many times did the company split, or the company that bought them split? That 500 shares, IF owned by a company that is still around, could potentially be thousands of shares depending on how many times the thing split, and at what ratios.

Dont get me started again. I was crunching numbers all weekend, I might have went over board, I think my family is about to kill me. Anyway, I need to find out how many millions of dollars I am worth...

I doubt it Spud, I happen to be quite a pack rat myself. Unless you like old ketchup jars or styrofoam or plastic/paper bags I can't hardly stand to throw anything away. I would be like "We can't throw this away!" and then I would have to explain why the hell I would like something that I will probably never use... What kind of stuff would you think you would like?

Well, I don't think I'd be interested in the ACTUAL trash, but most cases I always hear about some older people's places being cleaned out I hear of some old, obsolete tools being thrown out (because who REALLY wants to drill a hole by hand? I still want the tools to do so), if they lived in the country ever they probably have various country gadgets (manual coffee, meat, or grain grinders, various other tools that nobody knows how they work or what they are for). Then again, it sounds like maybe the stuff that is getting tossed out in this case is just refuse (other than POTENTIALLY those stock certificates ;-) ). A lot of times though some stuff that would be pure gold to me gets tossed just because it is old.

Funny you mention that, I kept two old drills. I kept an old planer and a really old bicycle pump (the leathers are worn out, but I plan on trying to fix it), and a bunch of other stuff I don't need. They do have a fairly old (I think) meat slicer. If you want it, I could snag it for you tomorrow night and you could have it after Spring break (if you don't want it, let me know). I also found and kept (again, like I need it) an old Brownie Hawkeye Camera and flash deal.

BTW Someone who knows more about stock than I (you should be ashamed if you don't) what is that maroon stamp in the upper right corner?

spud, you have so much shit in your room that it's not even funny. The last thing you need is a bunch of old crap to throw on top of your pile of other crap.
