Well now you're just being a moron, as I have clearly admitted I was wrong in the past on these very forums.

And calling the band (Val Emmis or something) that they brought in with the XBox thing "good music" is an affront to actual good music. Just as 99% of what they play on the radio and approximately 100% of the shit they play on the music channels is an affront to actual good music.

You may be able to tolerate the bullshit spewing out of the radio and TV at every possible chance, but it fucking pisses me off. It's ruining music for those who enjoy the ART of music. More importantly, it's ruining music for those who seek to make it but can't because they don't sound like a carbon copy of every goddamn "artist" on the radio and therefore can't make enough money from it to eat. I wonder how much money some bands get paid, because it must be a hell of a lot to make them forget about the fact that they must feel like miserable failures considering there are dozens of other bands that sound exactly the same. I know I would be ashamed.

So what you are trying to say is that you don't like it, it sucks. Because "good" music is only liked by a small group of arrogant assholes, who are "original." Any music they don't like is produced by "sellouts." I thought those wonderful "original" artists play for the love of the music, not to make a living, afterall, anyone that ever makes a lot of money gets labled a "sellout" by elitist pricks. Take Counting Crows I think it was, they wanted to do a song for the Shrek 2 Soundtrack (Accidentally in Love I think it was) but they were afraid to, because their fans would accuse them of being "sellouts" so they agreed to do it if they could be left off of the lable. Well somehow their name got out and supposedly they lost fans because they were hence forth thought of as "sellouts," what a crock of shit. They can't even do what music they want without fearing being called "sellouts."

No, I never said that music sucks just because I don't like it. I will THINK it sucks, but that doesn't mean it does.
And I don't consider myself an arrogant asshole when it comes to music. I'm always willing to give a listen to something new, I listen to bands that I consider bad (Linkin Park, for example) when I'm in the mood, and I always keep in mind that I don't know everything about music and there's always more to learn. If we're "arrogant assholes" because we denounce corporate-produced bullshit, then so be it; I'd rather be an arrogant asshole than promoting bands that either are dumb enough to think they're doing something original or have placed money above artistic expression.
No, original, good bands play for the love of music and artistic expression, but how do you expect them to make enough money to survive? They do it to make a living AND for the love of it. Many GOOD bands have folded just because they don't make enough money to sustain themselves. Musical equipment is very expensive, of course, among the many other expenses to tour and record. Money really is the root of all evil when it comes to the music state right now, but ALL bands need money to keep doing what they do, and that's unfortunately the catch-22.
And regarding the Counting Crows situation, who cares? Who fucking cares if someone labels you a sellout? They obviously weren't true fans of the music then. There will always be detractors of any band, so quite frankly I don't see why anyone would care.



Fixed, but yeah, basically. I feel that being original in some way is necessary to be considered as having valid musical expression. That's a purely personal feeling though.
