I am looking to borrow one of the jump start capable battery chargers. I just rebuilt my rabbit's diesel engine. I am trying to get the fuel lines bled, but to do that I need to crank the engine to build up pressure. Well, the battery is dead, and just using jumper cables isn't enough to get enough power. Charging the battery AND using jumper cables is, but only for a couple minutes of cranking (not all at once obviously).
So, if anybody has one I could borrow, that'd be great.
Also, if anyone wants an automotive challenge, try to figure out what I need to do to get this engine running ;-)
It cranks over, and I have been getting a fair amount of white smoke, but it hasn't yet even coughed while cranking. So, if anyone is an automotive genius (or knows more about engines than I do, which doesn't take much), especially if you know much about diesels, then let me know.

The fact that you are getting some smoke, but it hasn't even sputtered yet, makes me think it may be something with the injector pump. Make sure it is adjusted properly, hopefully it doesn't need to be rebuilt or anything, because those things are expensive.

Still looking. I need one that plugs into the wall, not a battery pack unit. I don't need to just jump the car, I will be using it for several minutes worth of cranking as I try to turn the car over, bleed the fuel lines, and troubleshoot the car.
Recharge? I don't think you know what I am looking for.
I have one, but it is about 4 hours away from here. IF I cannot get the car running in the next two weeks my dad will be coming down to help me and he will bring it.
All it is is a really big battery charger that is capable of jumpstarting with 200 amps. It is AC powered.
10/30/200 amps. Something like that is what I could use.
What about a higher amp battery charger? Anybody have something above 6 amps I could borrow? Then at least I could turn it over every 3 or so hours instead of every 6-8.
I sure hope it isn't the injector pump. I talked to my dad. He said when he replaced the fuel filter on our diesel tractor it took him an hour to get the fuel lines bled and the tractor started. While he was turning it over it just cranked and cranked...until it fired right up. I wish mine would fire right up though, cranking and cranking sure is annoying.
I'm not real sure how that is relavent really. 200 is a lot bigger than 6 though.
Oh, and amazing as it is, a person who knows nothing about cars (me) rebuilt an engine that started! Yep, yesterday I FINALLY got the thing to start. Of course, I do have a problem, it leaks oil. I don't mean a little bit, I mean it is a STREAM of oil, and only when the car is running (no, I didn't forget to put the oilpan plug in, and no, it isn't the oil filter). I thought I had the problem fixed twice, but neither solution fixed it. Now my guess is maybe the gasket on the oil pan isn't in place all the way around. It is a PITA to fix though, I don't have a high jack, so there isn't much room under the car. If I could get the car jacked up enough to use my electric drill to take out the 89 bolts (well, 30ish probably) it'd be a lot faster to drop the oil pan and check. As it is, I will probably wait until saturday night or sunday some time to work on it again. I don't even know if that is the problem. I guess I need to have somebody start the car while I am under it checking to see where exactly the oil is coming out of.
