So has anyone else been keeping up with the whole South Park issues?

Discuss…

1) take four parts average piss-ant white-bread mountian town children.
2) add 1 part of current affairs
3) subtract 3 parts integrity
4) subtract 2 parts dignity
5) and add one part subtle insignificant insight

mix together in a large rendering computer and serve in half-hour helpings.

despite the obvious over-the-top irreverance for anything and everything, i do find it relatively amusing, and i respect the fact that they pull no punches. i dont get to watch it very often, but last nights run was an amusing commentary on the mohommad (sp? ive seen it spelled several ways) controversy. as long as they maintain an "equal opprotunity" approach, i imagine i will continue to support its continued airing, whether i agree with it or not.

The Mohammed thing was more of a "fuck you" to Comedy Central for pulling the Scientology that pissed off Issac Hayes so much than it was a commentary on the Mohammed issue or Family Guy.

I don't really think so. To me it was all about the free speech issue where everything is fair game except showing the prophet mohammed. Do I always enjoy it when people make satirical commentaries on the short comings of my own religion? No, of course not, but you don't see me rioting and blowing up those who make such comments. When the Catholic abuse scandals blew up, sure there were some efforts by the highers up in my religion who tried to lessen the blow by covering things up, but ultimately the parishoners made it clear that this was wrong and that the abuse should not ever be tolerated. Yes we were nailed often in the press for this issue and I am thankful for it. Sure it exposed a horrible practice that had somehow permeated parts of the church, but it also ensured that corrective actions would be taken seriously. It is now not uncommon to hear priests speak openly in their sermons about how the scandal was a failing of the church that must never be repeated. I am not so naive to think that this has stopped all abuse, but it has surely stopped and prevented some and at the very least forced us to have a conversation on the issue. Why is it that the Islamic faith cannot have the same type of dialogue about suicide bombers wrapping themselves in their faith to justify the killing of those who do not share their faith or way of life? Just like individuals have difficulty coming to grips with their short comings and failings, religions have the same problem. At times the issue must be forced out into the open. And when it comes to the youth of America, sattirical shows like The Daily Show, Colbert Report and South Park are the few outlets that can permeate our brains.

I used to like South Park, but lately it seems a little too self-absorbed and formulaic. And for some reason I didn't like the ripped-apart corpse with post-mortem diarrhea. I realize it's the grossest show on tv, but it used to do it while being funny I think. Maybe I'm just getting too old for it.

I love South Park.

I massively enjoyed the first few seasons, and I like the newer seasons. A few of the seasons (around 3-6) got a little boring, but it's like sex and pizza--even when it's sucks, it's still pretty good.
