hey im trying to get at my AFS account on my Mac and for whatever reason the UMR helpdesk is a cluster fuck of nothingness and this is pissing me off

how do i connect to my afs account, im using os x 10.4.6 i have a basic knowledge of the OS and i am able to figure my way around i just need somewhere to start

my AFS account name is cpm4z7 so if you could just use that in your examples that would be great....

kthxbye

Personally I just use FTP.

Server: gpunix1.cc.umr.edu port 22
path: /afs/umr.edu/users/cpm4z7
user: cpm4z7
protocl: SFTP
encoding US-ASCII

EDIT: I use cyberduck as my ftp client.

I use Transmit with the same settings except gpunix.umr.edu and it doesnt require a path or an encoding option.

Everythings already in the system, mounts your s-drive as another drive.

1) Go into Finder.
2) Use the 'Connect to Server' option in the 'Go' menubar.
3) Server address is 'afp://macafs.umr.edu'
4) Type in your username and password
5) Mount the volume that's your username
6) Profit.

That'll get you to your s-drive.
Been using that since I got my G5's in oct. 2003, never had an issue.
If it doesn't work for you, check your network control panel and make sure appletalk is on and try again.
If it still doesn't work, I have no idea.

Now if only I can get seek to see my samba shares...

The (Apple/Compose key)+K thing doesn't work if the password is longer than some length I've heard, though.

ya i think gpunix.umr.edu works as well. putting a 1 or 2 i think takes you to a specific box, although it doesn't matter. The encoding option is important if you are trying to copy over text files. If you leave it to the default (UTF maybe?) the tabs get screwed up, and when I would try to print my comp sci labs, it would look awful.

And ziggy, I have never been able to get in the way you described. I always get an error saying unknown login, wrong password, or login disabled.

I believe the password must be 8 characters or less...
