Ok so I've done the usual webserver install, but for some reason PHP cant access the SQL installation. I've set the proper info in php.ini under the mySQL section, yet I keep getting the error "The PHP configuration on your server doesn't support the database type that you chose" I've been up and down google and was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem.

There's a module (from PHP, I think) that you have have to install to let PHP know about the MySQL installation. Then you have to go hack php.ini to tell PHP about that module. I think I ran into problems similar to yours last summer when I tried the same thing (WAMP). As I recall, php.ini is really sensitive about things like trailing slashes after directories, and spaces in directory names and crap like that.
Search php's site for the MySQL/PHP "driver". If that doesn't work try searching MySQL's site for a PHP driver.

I don't remember the file name exactly, but there is a file that PHP stopped shipping after version 3. Just snag the missing file. I know it worked for php4. Can't say anything about 5.

you are 100% correct. The module to add is all in the installation instructions included with the zipped form of PHP5. They even state that it is a good idea to install PHP this way instead of the msi.
