Hey, are there any places around here that'll cut you a little slack on an inspection? I have 3 cracks in my windshield (I can only find two, they said I have three, and you can only have one), but they aren't even in my line of sight. THere are two other things they won't pass me for, but I do plan on getting those fixed now that I know about them, but the windshield isn't something I'll be able to do at home or cheaply enough (new glass costs a third of what the car originally cost me!).
Also, anybody know how to fix a right lower ball something or another, or a left front toe-in (I THINK that is what he said, but I am not positive)? Those are the two main things I need to fix.

I would say you are screwed on the winshield. You have been black balled, so if someone else passes you, with the same things wrong, they would lose there license big time.... they don't seem to like that too much. You will probably have to get you front end aligned if you are toeing in (although I didn't know that would make you fail inspection) I reccomend Tunes Garage.
Oh and a little side bar, the reason that they only let you have one crack could have something to do with the fact that our windshield is a major structural component in the front of your cab.

It's best you get the windshield fixed anyways, for your safety, and everyone else's on the road. That's why the state issues inspections in the first place. I know it causes financial hassle but you're talking to the king of money-pit vehicles so I know where you're coming from.

(5) Reject vehicle if:
(A) Required glazing is not present or
improper glazing or nontransparent materials
are used;
(B) Window at driver’s left cannot be readily
opened to permit arm signals. (Do not
reject if the vehicle is equipped with properly
operating turn signals and stoplight);
(C) After-market vision reducing material
or other conditions that obscure the driver’s
vision is on the windshield;
(D) The windshield has one (1) or more cracks or distortion which would interfere with the driver’s vision;
The thing is, I have three, but they don't interfere with my vision at all. One runs along the very bottom, one along the very top, and one along the left side. None of them are in my way at all.
Also, they didn't charge me or write me up an official inspection thing either, so I'm not blackballed. I am not sure where the guy came up with "you are allowed one", because that clearly says one or more, not more than one. And it also says they have to interfere with my vision.
I think I may just illegally drive it to Indiana. I don't see anything on their website about having to have an inspection done so since I'll have to license it there anyway I may just say screw doing it here for MO. I'll just borrow plates off another of our vehicles and drive it to Indiana in the middle of the convoy (other cars plates are to avoid getting pulled over soley for not havingp lates). Of course, I also just found out I've been driving my sunfire on expired plates since january. I'm amazed I haven't yet been ticketed. I am saying screw that too, I'll just get it done when I go to indiana. IN has emmissions though, I don't know if the diesel rabbit will pass or not.
Edit:
Oh, and get this. One of the infractions was my air vent glass wasn't in. Bullshit. The inspection site doesn't say ANYTHING about those. It ONLY says something about the drivers window not being able to go down, and that ONLY if the turnsigal doesn't work.

I don't know this for a fact, but I would probably just run with expired, I am pretty sure that you will get into a lot more trouble if you switch plates around than if you just have expired plates, hell, a lot of the time they will even let you go for expired plates...

Yes, I plan on running expired plates on my primary car. However, the rabbit doesn't have plates at ALL. I KNOW I'd get pulled over for that if a cop or HP saw it. However, unless I was speeding or doing something stupid, I wouldn't get pulled over if everything else was ok. I'll be in the middle of a convoy with my parents leading it, so I don't think that I'll get pulled over.
Edit: Oh, I do have insurance, so nobody think I am driving my main car or the rabbit around without insurance.

Around where I am from we had The Glass Doctors. They would come out and repair the windsheild without replacing it. I don't know how they did it, but alot of people used them and they were cheap. You might want to try checking into something like that around here.

Lets say you get pulled over for a burnt out taillight, or speeding. Have fun trying to tell the officer your car isn't stolen and you switched plates. Sounds like a pretty dumb idea, IMO, and a good way to get into a LOT of shit when the officer runs your plates and comes up with a totally different car. Just get the car inspected and properly liscenced.

Convincing him wouldn't be hard. The plates owner will be with us, I have the title and insurance in my name for that vehicle. The problem with getting it properly licensed is the fact that I can't get it to pass inspection without being able to take it places to get it fixed, the closest place that can fix a few of the things is in freeburg. Granted, not having plates didn't stop me from driving it to branson or around branson ;-)
Actually, my roommate is pretty sure I could be legal driving WITHOUT plates entirely if I am moving to Indiana and am planning on getting it licensed there. I am not sure if this is correct, I will have to look up the exemptions to find out for sure. I won't be pulled over for speeding because my mom (drives like a granny) will be in the front vehicle, my dad directly behind me in a moving van. All the lights on it work fine other than the front blinker I am going to rewire to work. The chances of getting pulled over are extremely slim. HOWEVER, you are right, if I DO, then I am boned.

It is legal to not have plates for thirty days after purchase, but you have to have a bill of sale ready to show a police officer if you get pulled over. It is still illegal to switch plates to a different vehicle, whether you just purchased it or not. You either have to run it without any plates (up to thirty days after purchase, but they may hound you for not getting temp tags) or plates registered to that specific vehicle. Under no circumstances can you just switch plates without having them legally transferred.

The thing is, I DIDN'T just buy the car. I have had it since august. It hasn't been running until now (I had to rebuild the engine), so I never got it licensed. It isn't like I can pretend that I just bought it either because that would require a title that ISN'T in my name signed by the owner and by myself. I have a title in my name already.
