Well, its actually for my little brother but he is getting ready for college and my parents have a nice budget mapped out for getting him a computer. Now he is just ok when it comes to computer knowledge. He can do more then check his email and plays the occasional game. So what stuff should I get. I'm not interested in a Dell and have been referred to sites like, http://www.ibuypower.com. But anyway, 1500 dollar budget. needs monitor in that too. Thanks

Really if you don't know much about computers your best bet for price/performance would be to snag a computer from one of the deal sites like http://www.bensbargains.net for $1500 you'll be able to get a REALLY good computer on a deal site. Hell that have pretty good computers at $600, 1500 will get you everything a college kid would ever need.

The entire homepage is replaced almost twice a day on bensbargains, just so you know. For most low to mid level computers custom made ones like Dell are pretty good, especially since you can't build anything like it for the price of a Dell with those huge $750 coupons.

I actually through out that suggestion but my little brother is one of those anti mac guys simply because he has never used one.

Here is some random stuff off newegg, just as an example. He might want Intel or socket AM2, but this would definitely play games and surf the web.

+ some shipping

= $1084.94 (w/o shipping or an OS) ... if I can add

Have him get a new MacBook and you can put both windows and OS X on it. I have both installed just because I can. (I have only used the windows install long enough to download firefox.)

This is a solid notebook that you would have a hard time beating.

I wish I had enough money for an intel mac. Sadly I don't. Plus I love my iBook too much to give it up.

Long list of computer parts.

Pretty much same as above, but I suggest a nice widescreen LCD (ViewSonic VA1912wb for 19" [1440x900] or VX2025 for 20" [1680x1050]).

Toms hardware had a interesting article on building a water cooled Gaming PC for under $750.

http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/06/12/ ... g_for_720/

It's a different approach then I'd do, but the results seem to speak for themselves.
