Set up VPN to vpn.umr.edu from my home, but when it gets to the point that it checks my name and password, it always tells me the connection disconnected. Name and password is just like normal, right? Anything else I'm missing for anyone that had this problem before, or am I just ignoramus (go go gadget Cracker Barrel games)?

The patch you're more than likely referring to is a registry fix that allows Windows to send passwords in plain text...it's used for samba drives.

The vpn setup should be rather straight forward. You might try deleting that connection and attempting to create a new one.

Also, if you're behind a router or other network of sorts, usually only 1 vpn connection is allowed from behind the router.

If you are connecting through a router you might have some problems if your settings are incorrect. Personally I hate vpn, so I avoid it like the plague.. I just use exchange to get my e-mail, winscp3 to get my files, and Putty for everything else I need on campus.

If you have an option for ipsec passthrough on your router try enabling it, you may also have to add some firewall rules depending on your router. Check out: http://www.tomsnetworking.com/2003/05/2 ... _firewall/

Also try pinging vpn.umr.edu to see what results it gives you (Start -> Run -> cmd -> "ping vpn.umr.edu")
