I signed up for Netflix a month ago, and the service has been great. I'm in STL. Netflix's distribution center is in STL, so I get movies the next day, and they get them the day after I mail them back. I'm just curious to know how the service is in Rolla though. I doubt next day service, but hopefully still pretty quick. So for those of you in Rolla who have Netflix, how soon do you get your movies after they say they mailed them to you?
I used to have netflix and the service was pretty good in STL, but since I also live within walking distance of a blockbuster, I just got their service. In the 1 months I had it that summer, I had over 200 rentals, all for less than $20. Sure makes up for any late fees I ever had.

It was next day for me 90% of the time. In Rolla...

I have blockbuster online. It is very fast in STL, but in Rolla there was at least an extra day each way, plus living in the dorms mail is supposed to be picked up early (least that is what the box says) so I miss even mailing them a lot. And the TJ front desk sometimes sucks at getting mail out in time.
I do like the Free instore rental coupons though. Makes the extra day a little less of a bother, because I can still get new releases the day they come out.
i have blockbuster online, and there's about a 5 day turnaround time from when i mail them. it sucks. after the free month is over, i will certainly cancel it.

That's way too long, I'd cancel too.
I'm hoping for 2 day delivery each way. I know when I've mailed stuff to STL, or received stuff from STL while in Rolla, it's been 2 days each way. I won't have to worry about the dorms either since I'll be off campus. The post office is right on my way to campus which should work out to be very convienent and quick.
It seemed to take forever for them to get to Rolla for me compared to STL, and they're schedule was always fucked up. Like a lot of the time with Blockbuster, I got sent two movies at the same time, but they never did that with Netflix. Like even when I sent IN two at the same time, they'd send one, then send another one a couple days later. I didn't feel I got my money's worth at all.

I can't speak to Blockbuster's service, but Netflix has shipped multiple movies on the same day to my parent's house. We live about an hour outside of St. Louis (not a dramatic difference from Rolla) and we get a new movie 2-3 days after we send one in.

Netflix has always been great for me. We would ship out all the movies at once, and usually get the next three at the same time, the next day (never more than two days, except for one that got torn open at the local post office - they found it and returned it a month later, but all we got in the mail was a piece of a torn envelope in a ziploc bag with the word "sorry" in magic marker on it).
The great thing about netflix, is all the awesome old shows you can get.
One of my favorites is called 'allo, 'allo and is a british show about the french resistance in german occupied france. It's hilarious! A cafe owner, Renee, has to juggle the resistance, the nazis, his wife, his two mistresses (who are also his waitresses...), british airmen who have been shot down, "Herr Flick, Gestapo," and a "knockvurst hiding the painting of the fallen madonna vit the big boobies."
It's one of the funniest shows I've ever seen.

Hour from where in STL though? I have a feeling the Netflix distribution center is in downtown STL, and I'm in Chesterfield which is still a good 30 minutes away. Rolla's probably closer to 2 hours from downtown, and I don't know how close you have to be somewhere for the post office to generally delivery something next day. I'd say its all pretty unpredictable. Hell, I had a DVD come from Philadelphia, and it took 2 days here, and 2 days back which is much quicker than I would expect.
Anyway, do an of you netflix owners ever expierence throttleing? In the year and a half I have had blockbuster online I have seen it maybe once, but that could have just been an error on their part or he post office. I have heard reports however that netflix will do it more often.
If you don't know what throttleing is, it referes to only being alowed a certain volume of movies per month. As in if you rent 3 movies, and send them back the day after you get them, and then do that again, you have like 6 movies in a week, and your account gets flagged and they delay the shipment of the next movies so you aren't getting as many movies per month.
I wouldn't think this would keep customers, but I suppose the idea is to discourage those who just pirate the movies (everyone?).
So again, has anyone had any problems with throttleing?
Haven't had any problems with volume of movies. When we first started the service, we went through about 15 movies a month. No problems. Now we average about 8-10.

The throttling problem has mostly been for people with no job who sit at home all day eating food-stamp junk food. I doubt that any UMR student can watch enough movies to have that problem - even during the summer. Heck, my wife and I were on netflix all last year, and during the summer we would rent three movies (or discs of a series) and watch them all in 1-2 days. We never had a problem.
My only regret with Netflix is that I stopped getting it before I finished the series 'allo, 'allo.

Between the end of school and the beginning of work (about a month, my internship started late) I was a very heavy user. I'd get movies one day, watch them that day, and mail them out the next. I didn't experience throttling (probably would have if I continued). Once work started, I have no time to watch movies. I get them around Wednesday, watch one Friday, watch another Saturday (I'm on the 2 at a time plan), mail back Monday and get new ones Wednesday. That's basically the cycle, so now I'm not worried about getting throttled.
