Sorry devil, there is no way they do ANYTHING through email or phone. You have to go down there in person and sit there until they fix everything. Then you have to go back and tell them what they did wrong, and sit there until they fix it right. Then you'd better check it yourself before you leave the building.

I personally think all the accounting and administration (everything non-academic) needs to be completely fired, deleted, removed, etc. and built up from scratch. There are a few competent people in the system, and they do their best to fight the system. Bob Whites in the financial aid department stands out as someone who knows what he's doing and tries to help students.

There, it's out of my system. Todd, you should'nt have resigned up for a room since you planned to move out anyway.

I signed the lease after the room contract. I planned on moving out, but didn't want to not sign a contract in case something fell through

FOS means full of shit, right?

And what happened is just as I expected. ResLife is blaming cashiers. Cashiers is blaming ResLife. This should get interesting

Joe, Mike or Scott, is the 1.61 in damages from where the wall got knocked in?

And now ResLife just called me back, and it's "a glitch in the system" and they should be fixing it tonight  I get the idea that "a glitch" is just a scapegoat and they don't want to admit they fucked up

If I had nothing better to do with my life, I could find at least as many posts by you where you show your unquestionable love for ResLife. But, I don't. This is being posted in my 2 hours between getting home from work and leaving for a summer class.

The difference between me and you, is that my bitching, at least in this thread, is justified. ResLife is trying to screw me out of several thousand dollars. Your counter-bitching can be summed up as "Blah blah blah, I love ResLife, they never do anything wrong, blah blah blah"

And in response to "in this case, he came here and bitched before even figuring out what the problem was", I knew damn well what the problem was. I don't need to know the exact cause for the problem. I don't care if it was a glitch in the system, I don't care if paperwork got lost. I don't care about the details. What matters to me is that someone in ResLife made a big mistake and is trying to collect money I do not owe them. That's the problem.

Now according to someone at ResLife who I talked to this afternoon, the charges should be off my account tomorrow. If they are, great, and we can put this entire issue behind us, and I'll just owe ResLife $1.16 from when some asshole damaged the drywall in the hallway and didn't confess. But if my dorm and meal plan are still charged to my account, it just proves that the ResLife department is run by a bunch of incompetent people who have their heads shoved far up their asses.

Room contracts were due at the beginning of April. I did not have a lease yet, but was pretty certain I'd get one soon. I signed the dorm contract, knowing I had until sometime in May to cancel it at no charge to me. That way, if something happened, and I didn't have a house, I'd be able to live in the dorms again. I signed the lease later in April, contacted ResLife to cancel, and that's where we are now.

I also cancelled my room & board in TJ, both verbally and email-y, and also have the charges still on my account for Fall 2006...

Contracts to reslife are actually never due, you can sign up for a room anytime you would like. Cancelling is more difficult.

Actually I found it a bunch of these threads by simply searching, it took <1 minute.

In any case, I still don't see what the big deal is. I could see it being a problem if they had already mailed the bills and them making you pay an overbudgeted amount in July, but nope. I'm confused. Anyways, they said they'd fix it, what more do you want. Sure its a pain in the ass, and things like this get screwed up all the time.

Did you ever fulfill your goal that you told me about in Jan/Feb? BTW, your goal was to cook one meal by the end of the year.

Right, now it's not a big deal because it seems they're taking care of it. I posted this before I heard back from them and was worried this would be more of a hassle than it turned out to be.

No, I was lazy :( I do know how to cook a few things though, so I'll be fine.

None of this really matters. They'll fix it one way or the other as long as you have documented proof that you cancelled the room. If you do, then all if fine. In the worst case, they charge you, you pay the minimum amount you think you owe and get it fixed.

You have to learn to protect yourself because most of the people in this world are out to fuck you - ResLife is actually quite mild. Actually, the only problems I've ever had with ResLife were certain people (and not the department). Then again, I suppose I know what buttons to push.

I don't get alot of scholarships or loans, but enough that I really need them to pay for school. Last year it didn't pay out because financial aid had me down for one birthdate, and the registrar for another. Another year they tried to charge me interest on money that my aid hadn't paid yet, and I know I went in there at least one other time for something stuipd. It hasn't actually worked all by itself yet...I'm sure I'll have to go in again this fall and get them to do their jobs.

Last fall, one of my scholarships didn't pay out until around November. They knew that it was coming, but still charged me for the remaining tuition. I asked them if I had to pay the bill, since, being a state scholarship, it was garunteed to pay out. They said yes.

So, when I ask if I was going to get interest on my several hundred dollar payment at the same rate as they would get from me if I was late, they gave me a big "NO."

That, and in the winter semester they neglected to bill me (along with a bunch of other people, I think). So, a few days before the semester started, they sent me a letter telling me that I was going to be dropped from all my classes if I didn't pay the balance in some ungodly short amount of time.

After that, I pretty much hated Financial Aid.
