I know they're working on converting from AFS to....whatever the hell the new system is called; that might have something to do with it.
Also, are you using 802.1x or the WEP key? Because I know at one point, support for WEP was going to end and the network would be 802.1x only. That might've happened already though.

UMR is currently experiencing a prolonged interruption of the campus wireless network. UMR IT has investigated the issue and determined the cause to be an issue with 802.1x security authentication, the recommended method for connecting to the campus wireless network. UMR IT expects this issue to be resolved no later than Tuesday, July 18, 2006.
In the meantime, customers who desire access to a wireless network may still access the Open Wireless Network available in the Havener Center and Library or they may access the Campus Wireless Network by establishing a secondary connection using a WEP key. Details on both of these options can be found at:
(Scroll down to the 802.11b/g wireless networking directions for the WEP key)

The WEP service never ended, they just make it really hard to get the key off their website (or you can walk in). I think they decided not disable WEP because there are too many device like Palm pilots that don't support the new method.
