ok so ive got the lovely job of fixing my moms car, the front end was involved in an accident and got a little fucked... ive found all the parts i need except one or two.. and i can do all the work except straighting the radiator support but i already have someone to do that for me for relativly cheap.

the part or parts im looking for are the
hood latch and hood support on a 1999 mazda protege.

ive looked just about eveywhere i can think of online to try and find the parts but thats to no avail... the hood support goes in the midde of the radiator support.. which i have found but it does not include the hood support... its quite frustrating.. any one have any ideas for me?

I was going to suggest junkyard hunting, but the Protege was redesigned in 1999, so yours is the first model year, and therefore not likely to have parts in a junkyard. What have dealers quoted you?

to high for the insurance.. but most of the parts are clip on, so no biggie i can have the broken parts off and new parts on in 4 hours or so.. only actual work is with the radiator support, thus requiring me to get the new hood on and a replacement hood latch and support... stupid loop holes.. and the yards ive called most of em dont have the 99 protege, though i think i can look for an 00 as well, dunno that for sure though. and the few ones i have found were in front end collisons so poo

Why does it being the first year make it harder to find parts in a junkyard? It makes no difference. Junked cars are junked cars.

Honestly, Ebay is a very valuable resource. I had to get a hood latch for my Galaxie a couple years ago and I found one for an old Ranchero that worked, all through Ebay. Your car is also new enough that you might have luck with the dealer; although it will be very expensive, it might be a last resort.

You might see what other years you can use, or if any Ford vehicles cross to the part you need. I'd take a look at Contours and the like from around that year.

I was more worried that because it's a relatively new car, you might have a hard time finding junked ones.
