How far are you willing to drive?

Where do you have in mind? I would prefer it not be too far, but depending on how hard up I get, I might drive a little ways.

montauk springs is a good place to go to. It's about 40-50 miles south of Rolla.

I know a bunch of places that are small but still good fishing. Most are around 40-80 miles away.

Meramec Springs, its about 25 mins away from Rolla. It's the premier fishing spot in the area. It's located in St.James.

That's a good place. Easy to get there as well.

It would be stupid to go to Montauk for anything but trout. You have to have a license AND a daily trout tag to fish there. The same is true of Meramac. Montauk is better, but takes about 45 minutes to get there. Fishing is only very good in the morning, check the website, fishing starts about a half hour after sunrise.

Why fish when you could fall forever down Mel's Hole?

yeah but it might be expensive. my friend went to iowa and it was going to be $90 for out of state license.

depends what you like to fish, if you have a river or lake boat (i doubt many students here have a boat), and how far you're willing to drive.

trout: roubideux in waynesville is good (30 miles west of rolla). it's best when the conservationists stock it but you don't ever know when that's going to be. bennet springs is a trout reserve (north of lebanon). current river is decent (south of salem). i caught a record rockbass while i was there but let it go :(

everything else:
gasconade runs through many counties. it's about 20 miles north of rolla on 63. it has a good variety of fish. lotta smallmouth, largemouths are uncommon, then the casual blue gill, perch and goggle eye (aka rock bass). catfish is pretty common in some spots. if you just wanna catfish, ask around at people living on farms. usually people raise catfish in thier ponds.

big piney (20 miles west of rolla) i hear has an abundance of smallmouths. haven't personally fished it yet.

lake of the ozarks is about the best for bass and whatnot. but of course, a boat would make the experience better. when it's colder, the crappie hit like crazy.

pomme de terre. haven't personally fished it but i hear it's decent bass.

if anyone wants to get together and go fishing, let's set something up. i can never turn down fishing, lol.
